Century Cuts Splash Pad Hours Due To Programming Mistake
June 25, 2019
The Town of Century has cut hours for their splash pad due to a mistake, and it will be closed Tuesday due to a water leak.
On Saturday, NorthEscambia.com reported that when checked on Friday, the first day of summer, the splash pad was not working shortly after 5 p.m., and numerous readers reported it had been shutting off two hours early for weeks. The water would stop flowing daily at 5 p.m. instead of the 7 p.m. advertised by the town.
On Monday, the town said that “due to unexpected programming errors” the splash pad will now be open from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m.

I’ve seen some splash pads in bigger cities, it’s basically on all the time, but it’s activated for water by a big key shaped switch that the kids turn on and it runs maximum of 30 minutes then shuts off.
You should uphold the hours first stated. I think this subject should be powered by the sun and with that said use a solar powered switch to turn it on and off .
You’s a lie….De pad be open
How about a solar powered switch.
The street lights have them.
In the morning when the sun comes out, the splash pad goes on.
At night when the sun goes down, the splash pad goes off.
No programming needed.
Hey Y’all Computer Geniuses and Geeks — how about if the Century Splash Pad was put on a simple switch and someone was paid a few bucks a week to go “Flip ON the switch at Start time and Flip OFF the switch at End Time?
Why does everything have to be “run by computer” anymore?
Easier to blame a Thing than a Person.
Ya, trying too hard to solve a simple solution.
Chill out !
The splash pad is one of those customers not receiving a bill due to billing software issues……
Reprogram. DUH.
David for functional brains
I’m betting it is more the cost factor!
It is easier to cut the operating hours than to reprogram the device.
Century… The soap opera with no end in sight.
Is that computer a reject with no warranty or what? The kids are losing the time they had to play and enjoy some family time after being at daycare all day. Where can we donate to that won’t be used for any other issue? Fire that programmer too!
The way I heard it is the splash pad will be open every day, but no water will be provided due to the mayors swiming pool needing fresh water daily.
What’s the big deal about a water leak at a fixture that is basically running all the time?
Ridiculous.
What about working parents??
And the “stuff” goes on…….
Another way for city to extort money
Why wouldn’t the programming error be corrected? Is it a parts issue? A computer issue? Or is it the typical Century I don’t give a darn issue?
Oh yes, AND there is a water leak. Priceless.
So … instead of changing ONE variable in a computer program, we just change the hours. Surely there is at least one person in century who knows how to change a 5 to a 7.
If you cant run a splashpad how could you be expected to run a city.
And now you know why the town is in so much trouble and turmoil. These people are as ignorant as the day is long. SMDH
they can afford to run the splash pad,but can not pay their bills??????
Can’t figure out the timer programming? Just change the hours on the sign. LOL
Nobody knows how to change the timer!
Why am I not surprised?
Another lame excuse from a lame city! Rather than correct the programming mistake the city opts to continue a subpar service. This is the norm in Century for EVERYTHING under its oversight.
