James Alfred Burkett

James Alfred Burkett, 89, of Atmore, died Fri., April 26, 2019, at West Florida Regional Hospital in Pensacola. Burkett, the son of the late Patti and Claude Burkett, was preceded in death by a son, Gary Alfred (Donna) Burkett, of Alexander City; his wife of 65 years, Georgia Earline Burkett, of Atmore; one brother, Roy Lee (Betty) Burkett, of Atmore; and, two sisters, Pauline (Ralph) Womack and an infant sister, Helen Burkett, both of Atmore.

He is survived by daughter, Virginia Gail Bell; sister, Hazel (Lavon) Smith; grandson, Blake (Stephanie) Bell; great-grandchildren, Sawyer and Colin Bell, all of Atmore; brother-in-law, Donald Ray (Peggy) Weaver, of Atmore; sister-in-law, Alice (Richard) Walsh, of Pensacola; sister-in-law, Connie Weaver, of Bay Minette; and, numerous nieces and nephews.

Burkett was born Feb. 24, 1930. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict, and later retired from Monsanto. Burkett was a longtime member of Presley Street Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon, as well as in numerous other positions throughout the years.

Visitation for Burkett will be held Sun., April 28, 2019, from 5 until 7 p.m. at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home in Atmore.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Mon., April 29, 2019, at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home, with the Rev. Joseph Simpson and the Rev. Dempsey Bell officiating.

Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Atmore with military honors.

Pallbearers will be James Bell, Jason Burkett, Wendell Wearren, Blake Bell, Ken Tomas and Lonnie Turberville.

Jamie Lamar King

Mr. Jamie Lamar King, age 44, passed away Wednesday, April 24, 2019 in Mobile, Alabama.

Mr. King was a native of Atmore, AL and had resided in Canoe, AL for most of his life. He was an employee at G.A. West Co. as a diesel mechanic and was of the Christian Faith.

He is survived by his mother, Annie King of Atmore, AL; wife, Donna E. King of Uriah, AL; two sons, Jaxon King of Atmore, AL and Jayson Lavon King of Atmore, AL; three daughters, Tracie Alexis Hall of Atmore, AL, Lillie Rebekah King of Atmore, AL and Allyson Rachel King of Atmore, AL; one brother, Drayl Reed King of Pensacola, FL; one sister, Amanda McGhee of Atmore, AL; a very special niece and nephew, Cortney King and Tyler King and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services will be held Monday, April 29, 2019 at 2:00 PM at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Bro. Earl Harrison officiating.

Burial will follow at the Mothershed Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Sunday, April 28, 2019 from 4:30 to 7:00 PM at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Tommy Morrow, Tyler King, Bubba McGhee, Cody Wetzell, Chris Dunn and Brian Holleman.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Gerald Bell, James Smith, Akash Patel and David Tillery.
