May 1, 2019
A Jay teen who pleaded no contest to the attempted murder of his parents in was sentenced Tuesday.
Jackson Shane Baxley was sentenced to 48 months probation for the August 2018 incident.
According to the Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office, Baxley, then 15, and his girlfriend got into trouble for sending inappropriate phone messages during the summer and were forbidden to date or talk to each other, according to an arrest report. They did not stop talking to each other and hid it from their parents before he dated her again, according to an arrest report.
Baxley drove his grandfather’s pickup truck to North Highway 89 and Finley Road, just north of Jay, and approached his residence in the 15000 block of North Highway 89 on foot and went inside.
Baxley’s mother found him at the kitchen counter wearing a hoodie and a cotton mask around his neck.
Baxley stared at his mother with no expression on his face and did not respond to her, the arrest report states. His father pushed past his mother towards the kitchen where Baxley was standing armed with a shotgun. He began to walk backwards toward another room with the shotgun pointed downward. His father attempted to take the shotgun from his hand, causing Baxley to pull the trigger as a result of the struggle, the report states. The father was struck with birdshot in the upper thigh.
As law enforcement arrived on scene, Baxley fled. Deputies chased Baxley, eventually tasing him twice.

Probation after he attempted to kill his parents? So the system just gave him the opportunity to go off and do another crime! Which may cause serious harm to innocent people.
These parents should not have to live in fear. This is not right . these parents are trying to the right thing discipline this boy. He try to kill them. Then the judge slaps them in the face with this sentencing. I guess they will send him to hop— center for anger management. Dear parents I pray and plead the blood over you in Jesus name for your protection.
Ok now he can finish the job this is a lieutenant judge isn’t this attempted murder why how do you get probation for shooting your father?
25 to life would have been a better sentence, he had no remorse for the people who brought him into this world, so the law should had no remorse In their sentencing. Now the justice system has set a clear standard for other children, make an attempt to kill your parents then you definitely get a tap on the wrist.
Uh, so how do the parents sleep at night?
Love all my kids and grands but Lordy Mercy to shoot a family member, Dad, and then get probation? Nope, somebody would be sleeping elsewhere and it’s Our house.
Hope this kid gets some much needed help before he hurts someone worse.
Prayers for all involved.
There’s no justice. He went to the home with the intention to cause harm and gets probation. Crazy
Technology and hormones doesn’t seem to be a very good mixture. Well, you know what they say…”all’s fair in love and war”.
I’m just not sure which one this is…..
Hope they didn’t/don’t let the little angel come back home to serve his probation and give him a second chance to finish the job.
You’ve got.to be kidding. That’s all he gets for attempted murder. The courts are a joke and the the judges are the court jesters.
I am sure that makes for some awkward family gatherings.
So a pimple faced boy mad at his parents, plans on murdering them – shotgun in hand and all he gets is tased and probation. Maybe the slap on the wrist was because it was just a crime of passion and it was only birdshot…
