Jay Teen Shot At Community Center In Century Tuesday Night

May 8, 2019

A Jay teen was reportedly shot outside a community center in Century late Tuesday night.

A 17-year old victim arrived a Jay Hospital suffering from non-life threatening injuries. He said the shooting occurred at the basketball courts at the Carver Community Center on Jefferson Avenue, according to Maj. Andrew Hobbs of the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office.

The teen told deputies he was at a party when multiple black males wearing masks came out of a nearby wooded area and shot him. But Hobbs said the teen was not being cooperative and gave deputies inconsistent accounts of how exactly the shooting occurred.

“His story about how he got shot has changed, but the location has not,” Hobbs said late Tuesday night. He said multiple shell casings were located at the community center in a manner consistent with the teen’s story.

The Escambia County Sheriff’s Office was continuing their investigation into the early morning hours of Wednesday.

Anyone with information on the incidentis asked to call the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office at (850) 436-9620 or Crime Stoppers at (850) 433-STOP.

Many kids along the high school say it was a drug deal gone bad, some of his best friends even so the drug deal assumption might be the truth, so those of y’all who think this he’s an innocent little boy you most likely are wrong.

If it happened late that night and they had masks on how could you tell they were black or was he just assuming they were black.

Hence my agreement it is POSSIBLE. Trust me, many a time you think folks are joking but they dead serious.

    >>.Century needs to take some of that money they are paying hte mayor to go shopping and travel and use it to do some community care.

This community center does not belong to the town, nor do they run it.

David, Sorry you missed the humor in my Horatian Satire. I really thought you of all people would have caught that. I agree the article made no mention of a ball game but it also made no mention of a drug deal. It did say he was attending a party. So why not assume he went to a party? Maybe Tupperware!!

That place needs to be torn down, shut down, done away with. There is nothing but trouble there. It is run down, needs serious upgrads. Century needs to take some of that money they are paying hte mayor to go shopping and travel and use it to do some community care.

“Why does everyone always assume the worst? Maybe just maybe he was their to play basketball.”

    Always possible.

But you don’t generally feel the need to revise the truth. (“His story about how he got shot has changed,”)

And you generally try to cooperate with the people trying to catch your attackers. (“the teen was not being cooperative”)

Also nothing in the article indicates he was playing basketball, just that it happened at the courts.

    David for better people

I respect everyone’s opinion, but these same innocent little boys that come from jay are sometimes the worst drug dealers ever. So the notion that it’s just a century problem is false. This story is missing some key details.

If you frequent the Century Community Center, be armed and sporting a vest.

Why does everyone always assume the worst? Maybe just maybe he was their to play basketball.

Poor kid is stupid and got shot. He was there trying to score drugs, anybody that hears the words Jay Resident and “Century” Community Center know what he was doing there.
