Charles D. Bryan

Ret. Lt. Col. Charles D Bryan, born October 13, 1923, died peacefully at his home in [i]Mobile on May 18, 2019. He is survived by loving his wife of 73 years, Louise Strickland Bryan; two sons: Chuck Bryan (Bonnie) of Mobile and Ret. Lt. Col. Gary D. Bryan (Connie) of Las Vegas, NV (formerly of Pensacola, FL. four grandchildren: Charles L. Bryan, Jr. (Julie), Fairhope AL; Layne Bryan Abee (Aaron), Smithville, TX; Lt. Col. Marcus Bryan (Tracie), Pensacola, FL and Sara Bryan, Las Vega, N; seven great grandchildren: Christopher, Haley and Alyssa Bryan, Pensacola, FL. Jackson and Thompson Bryan, Fairhope, AL and Conrad and Bella Abee, Smithville, TX.

Charles was born in McCulla, AL and served his country as a Marine in World War II and served in the Army for the Korean War and two tours in Vietnam. He was awarded three Bronze Stars and the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry. He graduated from the University of Nebraska Omaha. He also served his state as Deputy Commissioner of Prisons and served his church, Walnut Hill Baptist Church as a Deacon and other positions.

Charles was a devoted husband who married his childhood sweetheart and were married for 73 years. He was a devoted father who loved his family. He was the last surviving member from a large family of seven siblings. He was a loving uncle and loved spoiling his grandchildren. He even loved his grand dogs.

After retiring from the Military from a career that took him overseas and all over the country, he came home to Walnut Hill, Florida. He loved fishing with his brothers, witnessing to those in need, he loved to travel and was an avid reader keeping Tom Clancy on the top of the Best Seller list. He LOVED his Alabama Crimson Tide and above all he was a man of God.

Funeral arrangements are handled by Johnson Quimby Funeral Home in Atmore, AL. Visitation and the Funeral Service will be held from Walnut Hill Baptist Church with interment at the Walnut Hill Baptist Cemetery on Wednesday, May 22, 2019. Family viewing at 11:30 and general public from noon until 2 p.m.. Funeral services will begin at 2 p.m.

Pallbearers are: Skip Bryan, Danny Bryan, Steve Bryan, Brett Ward, Rob Faircloth and Wesley Foster.
