Century Correctional Officer Assaulted By Inmate

May 10, 2019

A correctional officer was recently assaulted at Century Correctional Institution, according to information just released by the Florida Department of Corrections.

Last week, inmate Ricardo Glasco assaulted an officer. according to the FDC.  At about 10:10 p.m., Glasco became combative and staff responded appropriately. While the inmate was being subdued, he tackled an officer to the ground. Medical staff examined the officer and noted injuries.

The FDC said Glasco will receive a disciplinary report for the assault.

Glasco remains at Century CI serving an 11 year sentence for numerous drug and weapon convictions in 2012 from Brevard County.

Here is my thought on how a prison should be ran. With the thought in mind that these people will be returned to society. Do we degrade them so badly that they are returned to society more fractured than what they were? Only to turn a thief into a murderer? While degrading the criminal, we also degrade the guard’s mental status. S/he too must become animal-like to survive.

When people say a prison should be a prison, define a prison.

I’m amazed that a convicted felon is commenting on how bad he had it in Prison. Prisons should be a deterrent to committing crimes. Inmates should not be allowed to have the same privileges as a tax paying citizen. You are a convicted felon and should be paying a debt to society. The problem with Prisons is that they are now a business. It’s no longer about prison being a deterrent, nor is it about crime and punishment. It’s about companies have now found a way to make a profit off both Inmates and their families. Canteen sells, Inmate packages, tablets, downloading music and movies, email accounts, paying for video visitation, etc. Its a multi-million dollar business for both state and private prisons. Care, Custody and especially CONTROL of inmates is now secondary to making a profit. Inmate Discipline is just simply bad for business and it puts the lives of hardworking Correctional Officers and Staff in jeopardy every time they enter the prison gates.

To the excon…i need to go to prison to see what it is like? I was in prison for the better part of 10yrs. However, I was a Sgt. with the FDOC. Oh yeah, prison is so hard!!!! Cry me a river! I think it is probably safe to say that you didn’t go to prison for singing too loudly in the choir!! Unbelievable!!! Most (not all) want to be harda$$e$ on the street but you put them in prison and they cry about everything. I’m sure they didn’t complain when they were the ones out on the street breaking the laws, assaulting people, selling dope etc. Prisoners use my tax dollars to live while they are there. They do not contribute to the well being of society. In fact, most are leaches who do nothing but suck society dry! As far as the menu, that lady isn’t that crazy. You and I both know that you have a canteen menu that you can order off of. So while the victims of crimes suffer from what has been done. You guys set there and eat ice cream and complain about how bad it is in priaon. Here is a thought….DONT GO TO PRISON!!!! Truth be told, the inmate probably did it because he knows that he can hit an officer and then hold his hands up and say I am done and the officers must downgrade the amount of force used. Then the inmate can go to dc status alone or in the cell with one other person at another camp until he is moved to CM status where he is behind a door and protected for hours upon hours. I would be willing to bet that if he knew the officers would tune him up when he did it without losing everything they have worked so hard for it might have been a different outcome.

Excon —- I am so tired of people saying that inmates get treated badly by guards. I am a wife of one of the guards at Century and I will be the first one to tell my husband that if it comes down to it, he better make it home to me and our family. The guards at these prisons have no way to protect themselves from these inmates. Most of the inmates do not care what happens to them so why not try to take a guard or another inmate out. Then let a guard holler or lock one up and then all you hear is guard brutality. I am so sick of it…. These are inmates that broke the law and while locked up get way to many privileges. Start taking away stuff. I have a great idea, IF YOU DO NOT LIKE HOW PRISONS ARE RAN, THEN DO NOT DO ANYTHING TO GET PUT IN THERE!!!!!!!! Why should someone that did a major crime be treated better than a guard, or even people not locked up working hard for what they have??? I am just so tired of hearing how bad CONVICTED INMATES HAVE IT!!!!!!!!

Man ..you guys don’t know nothing your talking about..I was just in century c.i.last year..and number one ..you don’t have privileges..at all hell you barely even get to go to canteen..much less yard..why you think all the inmates there stab each other ..or the police….to get away from there to get a negitive transferr..that’s why ….the staff there coukid care less wether you lived or died..and you sure as he’ll don’t have a menu to choose what you eat…I don’t know where that crazy lady came up with that…you need to go to prison..matter fact you all need to go to prison to see how it really is..then you will all stop talking all that crap..just sayin..you all have no idea how many times I watched a c/o beat the crap out of someone that was cuffed up..for no reason..now some of the inmates that got that deserved it..but most didnt..you guys need to wake up and really understand how inmates really have to live from day to day.. it’s a constant battle to just survive in there..I just spent 5 years there ..and at the work camp..same thing
.poor management and guards that could care less..

My husband worked for years as a guard, now my son does. The problem is the inmates have way to many privileges. Their inmates not kids in summer camp. They have so much more in the prison than out in the real world. They have a freaking menu to choose what they want to eat, WTH. Our society is so screwed up. The inmates have complaint boxes all through the prison , what’s up with that? Stop kissing inmates butts and help these officers. These guys go in to work not knowing if they’ll get through the night. They need a Warden that cares more about his staff, instead of the criminals. Bring back the farms, make them grow their own food. Stop letting inmates sue officers, stop siding with inmates that attack officers, stop wasting tax payers money catering to the criminals.

Prison should be run like a prison?
Most all prisoners suffer from mental problems.
The prison has not been managed right in the past as
All the news will say..this is why we are having a lot of
Problems in our prisons..Prisons should be run like a prison?
There are suggestions how to make these places work
Better but the wardens and staff aren’t willing to do it.
Yes it would be great if both the inmates and staff wouldn’t
Be fighting and hitting each other. So how would anyone make
    A change?
The list would be large..Florida and Alabama needs a new
    Approach..

Flacco gets a disciplinary report in his file for assaulting an officer. What a joke. The Century Correctional facility should be closed as it is evident the prison can not be managed and nothing happens to the inmates when they assault officers.

Poor Fella…. Probally ain’t got a mark on him… Ya know how you can tell…. Because, if he did, the headline would of read…. “Prison guards arrested for doing there job” …. Now a days… How this disfunctional prison system is being run…. I wish that job on no one… A prison is a prison and should be run like a prison… It’s not a college campus… It’s not the mall…. It’s a prison…
