Two Jay Royals Place At State Weight Meet

Two Jay High School lifters places in the recent state 1A weightlifting meet.
Senior James Eddings tied for third in the 183 pound weight class with a total of 595 pounds at the state meet. The tiebreaker was a weigh off and resulted in a fourth place medal.
Junior Dylan Phillips had the winning total in the 119 pound weight class. There was a tie for the state championship in that weight class and Phillips finished as runner up in the tie breaker.
Susan Ann “SueAnn” Presley

Susan Ann “SueAnn” Presley, 57, of Cantonment, FL passed away on Friday, April 12, 2019.
SueAnn was born August 6, 1961 in Oakland, California. She was a member of Highland Baptist Church in Molino, FL where she assisted numerous committees. SueAnn loved her church family and enjoyed participating.
She was preceded in death by her son, Sean Johnson.
SueAnn is survived by her beloved husband, Gary Presley; her parents, Carl and Jimmie Smith; her two brothers, Jesse Smith, Scott Smith and his wife, Mary Ellen; her stepson, Lance Presley; her granddaughter, Shelby Lynn Presley; her mother-in-law, Hazel Presley; her sister-in-law, Lisa Free and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of SueAnn’s life will be held at 6:00 P.M. on Tuesday, April 16, 2019 at Highland Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 4:30 P.M. until service time at the church.

Area Unemployment Rate Dips Slightly

The latest job numbers released by the state show a decrease in the unemployment rate in Escambia and Santa Rosa counties.
Escambia County’s unemployment dropped slightly from 3.5 percent in February to 3.3 percent in March. There were 4,743 people were reported unemployed during the period. One year ago, unemployment in Escambia County was 3.7 percent.
Santa Rosa County’s unemployment rate decreased from 3.2 percent in February to 3.1 percent in March. Santa Rosa County had a total of 2,477 persons still unemployed. The year-ago unemployment rate in Santa Rosa County was 3.4 percent.
Florida’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 3.5 percent in March 2019, unchanged from the February 2019 rate, and down 0.3 percentage point from a year ago. There were 360,000 jobless Floridians out of a labor force of 10,346,000. The U.S. unemployment rate was 3.8 percent in March.
The jobless numbers released by the state do not include persons that have given up on finding a job and are no longer reported as unemployed.
Sunrise Services, Egg Hunts And Many Other Area Easter Events Planned

Here are Easter weekend events schedules in the North Escambia area, including several sunrise services:
Quintette Community Easter Egg Hunt
An Easter Egg hunt will be held at the Quintette Community Center on Saturday, April 20. Activities begin at 11:30 with the Easter Egg hunt starting at noon. There will also be free food, bounce house, snow cones, games, and prizes. The Quintette Community Center is located at 2490 Quintette Lane in Cantonment.
Farm Hill Methodist Egg Hunt
Farm Hill Methodist Church is holding an Easter egg hunt on Saturday at noon at 1251 Muscogee Road.
Enon Community Egg Hunt
Enon Baptist Church will host an Easter egg hunt on Saturday from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at 7121 Hwy 97A in Walnt Hill. Plenty of food for the family with fun and games for children of all ages.
Community SonRise Service
Marcus Pointe Baptist Church will host the annual Community SonRise Service to be held Easter Sunday, April 21, at 6 a.m., at the Blue Wahoos Stadium in Pensacola. For more information contact Robbie Harvey at (850) 479-8337.
Aldgersgate UMC Molino Easter
Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Molino will host a Community Easter Sunrise Service at 6 a.m. on Easter Sunday. Refreshments and fellowship will follow.
Cantonment Easter Celebration
Victory Assembly of God will celebrate the risen Lord and Savior at 10:30 a.m. on Easter Sunday. Sunday School begins at 9:30 a.m.
Walnut Hill Sunrise Service
Walnut Hill Baptist Church will hold a sunrise service at 6 a.m. Sunday. No Sunday school. Worship begins at 10:30 a.m. with the choir’s Easter cantata. There will be no evening service.
Highland Baptist, Molino Easter
Highland Baptist Church in Molino will have their annual Easter Egg Hunt and Family Devotion at 9:30 a.m. Sunday followed by Easter worship at 10:45 a.m.
Harvest Christian Center Cantonment Easter
Harvest Christian Center of Cantonment will host two special Easter services on Sunday at 9 and 11 a.m. with contemporary music, relevant message, an Egg hunt during children’s church, family photo opportunity and more. 1095 Muscogee Road.
Lathram Chapel UMC Easter Events
Lathram Chapel United Methodist Church at 2690 Jacks Branch Road will hold an Easter egg hunt Saturday at 10 a.m.; and Easter Sunday services with Bible and Breakfast at 9 a.m. and regular service at 10 a.m.
First Baptist Church Cottage Hill Easter
The First Baptist Church of Cottage Hill at 230 Williams Ditch Road will host a sunrise service at 6 a.m. followed by breakfast and fellowship. There will be no Sunday School, and he regular service will be held at 10:45 a.m.
Century UMC Easter
Century United Methodist Church will hold their Easter service at 11 a.m. on Sunday.
Crossfaith Church Easter
Crossfaith Church in Molino will hold an Easter Celebration for kids on Saturday, April 20, from 9-12 with games and an egg hunt. There will be a Resurrection Service at 10 a.m. on Sunday.
Trinity Lutheran Church Easter
Trinity Lutheran Church in Cantonment will host Easter sunrise service at 7 a.m., Easter breakfast 8-9:30 a.m., Easter egg hunt 9am and Easter Sunday worship service at 10 a.m.
Park Place Baptist
Park Place Baptist Church on Lakeview Avenue will have an egg hunt and activities for the children on Saturday from 3-5 p.m. and an 11 a.m. Easter service on Sunday.

Licenses Issued In Alabama Industrial Hemp Program Including Seven In Escambia County

The Alabama Department of Agriculture and Industries (ADAI) has licensed 152 growers, 59 processors, and 5 universities to grow, cultivate, process, and research industrial hemp in 2019 — including seven licenses in Escambia County, AL.

Flood Warning Issued For The Escambia River Near Century

A flood warning has been issued for the Escambia River near Century until further notice.
Saturday morning, the river stage was at 15.4 feet. The flood stage is 17 feet, and the river is forecast to rise to near 18 feet by Monday morning. The river will begin to fall on Tuesday.
At 17 feet, there will be considerable flooding of lowlands, and at 19 feet low lying pasture will flood necessitating the movement of cattle.
