ECUA Terminates Contract To Haul Recyclables From Santa Rosa County

April 25, 2019

ECUA is terminating their contract with Santa Rosa County for the transportation and processing of recyclables effective April 30.

County officials said they are working with ECUA on a new contract for processing and seeking to replace the transportation services within the next few weeks.

“Recyclable material degrades if not sorted and stored properly, therefore recycling will be diverted to the Central Landfill for disposal until a new transportation vendor is under contract. The county encourages residents to maintain good recycling habits and as part of the franchise agreements with the county, all waste haulers will still be required to collect recyclables separately, so residents will see no change in their existing services,” Santa Rosa County said in a prepared statement.

“Recycling programs in many municipalities have struggled due to increased costs for transportation and processing combined with a limited number of markets since China recently stopped accepting the US’s recyclables. While Santa Rosa County fully supports recycling, significant changes may need to be made to provide a sustainable recycling program in the future,” the statement concluded.

It is bad that a ECUA could not notify Santa Rosa County residents that you were going to eliminate the service that you people bid on and won a contract for garbage and recycle waste. It is clear that ECUA is not a facility that believes in helping the enviorment .

    April,
Contact the Board Member who is responsible for your part of the county. These Board Members are elected officials so they work for us. You can find out who your Board Member is and their contact information here.

China doesn’t want your garbage because it’s proven not to be clean enough to recycle. Oh, we may have ’sorters’ that try to prevent that, but a lot gets through. American jobs for American Citizens! Reparations for the rest of us!! MAGA!!!

Ecua took my recycling can away said I was putting non recycle products in it I was never notified. When I called they said the driver puts a tag in the can saying non recycle products in it we never got a tag I asked what we where putting in the recycle that wasn’t supposed to be in it they could not tell me.I asked doesn’t the driver keep some kind of log.this place has the worst customer service ive ever seen and when I called them out on there sorry attitudes they were like we take pride in our job.hahaha they don’t care because they know we don’t have any other options.so now I’m being punished by taking my can and I throw all my recycling in the garbage.I’m still waiting on a phone call back it’s been over 3 weeks.

Now you can use one truck and cut expenses in half plus cut my bill in half!

Well I for one can say that my “recycle” can sits by the road for sometimes weeks before its picked up–if its picked up at all. Great service that we pay for every month. Give me a break! I live alone so I didn’t want the service to start with but then I was threatened with a $1000 fine if I didn’t use the service WTH? So I pay to put a half full can out every other week or so. Ridiculous!

Anne, that was actually the City of Pensacola who did that. Of course, no one was ousted for it…

Stop wasting your time putting out two containers.

Escambia County and ECUA are two separate businesses. ECUA is owned by the State of Florida and is and has been responsible for home collection of recycle material and trash. Escambia County has no pick up service. ECUA negotiated with the county to locate their recycle facility on landfill property. That is the extent of the the involvement of Escambia County. You pay to bring your own stuff and trash to Perdido Landfill, BUT, your Waste Services does offer some awesome free services so check them out, but no pick up service. Good or bad Emerald Coast Utilities Authority offers most of the pick ups for Escambia County and Santa Rosa County.

We need a full audit of this program. We have 13 million invested into a machine a private company is using….SHOW US OUR RETURN???!!!!!

Ugh, this story reminds me of when Escambia County stopped doing Recycle yet did not fully inform us customers.
However, there was continuous collection of Our Money as if the Recycle program was still going on when our separated items went into the landfill right along with the garbage.
    Ugh…
