Cantonment Woman Charged With Child Neglect

April 9, 2019

A Cantonment woman was charged with felony child neglect after doctor noticed multiple injuries on her child.

Maranda Mixson took her child to the emergency room at Sacred Heart where doctors noticed bruises in various stages of healing on the child’s stomach, back, arms, elbows and legs, according to an arrest report. The doctors also said the child had large bruise across the front of the neck that appeared to be rope burn and numerous round marks on the stomach, feet and hands that appeared to be e-cigarette burns, the report states.

While the child’s age is redacted from the report, it states that the child had not see doctor in some period of time and had received no immunizations since she was two-years old.

Mixson was booked in to the Escambia County Jail and later released on a $5,000 bond.

To the person who wondered where the dad was. He was not allowed to see the child for the last 4 or 5 months. Mother always had an excuse. He was paying his child support. He is not a deadbeat dad. And as soon as he heard his child was at the ER he was there. So you can’t always assume the worst about someone.

This was reported to Dept of Children and Families and Gulf Coast Kids House by a concerned citizen, but no action was taken. The problem really lies with our Case Workers and Guardian Ad Litems assigned here in the North end of the county. I don’t know if they are under paid, over worked, just don’t really care or a combination of all of the above. We seriously need an investigation of our local Dept of Children and Families and Gulf Coast Kids House employees because too many things have been slipping through the cracks and going “unnoticed” even after reports like this. Please bring this to your Congressman’s attention before more abused children slip through the cracks.

So another Cantonment women gets a $40,000 bail for letting her 1 and 3 YO wander on Rt. 29, live in filth and also had prior bruises, etc. While this person only gets $5,000…disgusting and both Mothers(?) look like they were on drugs. A better investigation will happen in both cases.

Should this child be with this woman? No. That being said, where was the father when his child needed protecting? Obviously not in the child’s daily life to see the evidence of abuse before it got so bad. And Bartender, why is the woman solely responsible for birth control? If men used birth control, “these girls” wouldn’t keep having babies.

Who set bond? The sheriff, or a judge ? This one needed time to think about her life, I hope they at least made her tell witch boy friend was harming the child. Why where they in such a hurry to let someone go who harmed a child ? If u hit a cop hard enough to leave bruises like that bond is at least $200,000. how much more defense less is a child? I am very disappointed in the sheriff’s dep if they set bail.

The judges who set bonds must just pull balls out of a bingo cage. This woman gets a $5k bond, a man who threatened to blow up the courthouse gets a $10k bond, and another woman whose children were living in poor conditions gets a $40k bond. It makes absolutely no sense and is completely inconsciencable to only set a $5k bond to a parent whose child has multiple indications of physical abuse. Multiple wounds and a rope burn around the child’s neck – irresponsible to set this woman free with so little disregard for her actuons. Whoever you are judge, you are ridiculous and pathetically serve your post.

Bruises in various stages of healing on the child’s stomach, back, arms, elbows and legs, bruises in various stages of healing on the child’s stomach, back, arms, elbows and legs, round marks on the stomach, feet and hands that appeared to be e-cigarette burns – this is someone that deserves a child? She should be in jail with no bond, how could other family members knowingly let this happen?
