Florida Gas Prices Jump 25 Cents In Just 10 Days
March 2, 2019
Florida gas prices jumped 14 cents in the past week, for a combined total increase of 25 cents in 10 days. After selling for nearly $2.23 per gallon – just 10 days ago – the average price for a gallon of gasoline in Florida is now up to nearly $2.50.
In Escambia County the average price per gallon was at $2.31 on Friday.
“While it may be hard to stomach, the recent jump at the pump is common this time of year,” said Mark Jenkins, spokesman, AAA – The Auto Club Group. “Maintenance season is underway for refiners along the Gulf Coast. While conducting spring cleaning at their plants, they have also begun sending out summer-blend gasoline, which is more expensive to produce. This likely isn’t the end for rising prices. AAA forecasts the national average will peak at around $2.75 by Memorial Day.”

Remember when they used to on a regular basis, raise the price of coffee. We used to laugh at the TV commercial showing Juan Valdez & his donkey. We used to say after each increase that either poor old Juan was sick that day, & couldn’t pick any beans, or his donkey was stubborn & wouldn’t go that day.
@John
Using a product and taxing that product are two totally separate things. In a capitalist system, the more a product is produced to sell, the lower the price becomes…especially when there is competition over a monopoly. Unfortunately, government has a monopoly on taxation and is free to do as they please…largely unchecked.
Every time the gas prices go down, some politician starts screaming for a gas tax. It’s always for roads, etc. Well tell me this – after their pet project is paid for, what do they do with the money they continue to collect? This is ridiculous. We have our income taxes (state and federal) , purchases, food, medicine, clothes, utilities, Water etc. I just saw where some yahoo supports another tax. He must be off his meds. The government takes too big a bite already. When they’re done – I don’t have enough to live on.
@ Sedition. Next thing you know, the left will blame the NRA for raising prices on gasoline. Simple, supply and demand. Do we not use a lot of energy as a nation?
How much longer will the gasoline producers be able to ride this “summer blend” horse before someone steps in and investigates them to see if it really does cost more to produce. My guess is NO
I personally think fuel/petrol prices are far to low for most states with the terrible roads we have. The whole road tax system should go to road, bridge and infrastructure improvement and we should hold all our Representatives to that or vote them out in place of people who actually have a legit plan they can back up. Taxes are part of a civilized society and I am sick and tired of or Representatives wasting what little they do collect.
@Joy Bryant
It won’t be cheaper in Alabama much longer, after Kay Ivey’s 10 cent gas tax hike goes into effect.

Never like getting ripped off by oil companies and the state. Our system is corrupt.
What a scam this ethanol winter/summer blend garbage is. Yet another way the loonie left jacks things up in the name of their “eco” junk science.
