FDOT Plans Highway 29, Molino Road Traffic Signal; Eight Miles Of Highway 29 Resurfacing
March 15, 2019
Bids will be opened later this month for a Florida Department of Transportation project to install a new traffic signal at the intersection of Highway 29 and Molino Road, resurface eight miles of Highway 29 and improve several other intersections from Molino to Cantonment.
The improvements include:
- A new traffic signal will be added at Highway 29 and Molino Road, along with a new northbound and southbound turn lanes on Highway 29 and turn lanes in both directions on Molino Road. The median crossover at the Dollar General Store will be closed.
- At Barrineau Park Road, new northbound and southbound turn lanes will be added on Highway 29.
- New Highway 29 northbound and southbound turn lanes will be added into the Florida Division of Forestry (fire tower)
- A new southbound right turn lane will be added at Booth Lake Road.
- At Quintette Road, new turn lanes will be added on Highway 29 in both directions. There will not be a traffic signal installed.
- At the Highway 29 and Muscogee/Becks Lake Road, the turning radius will be improved on all four corners and the signal will be reconstructed.
- The railroad crossing signals on Highway 29 just south of Muscogee Road will be replaced.
In addition, Highway 29 will be resurfaced from just south of Muscogee Road in Cantonment to Highway 97 in Molino, and there will driveway improvements and other safety enhancements.
Bids on the estimated $11.4 million project will be opened March 27. It is expected that construction will begin this summer with completion in the fall of 2020, according to the Florida Department of Transportation.

@concerned. If a traffic light at 196&29 saves just one life then your inconvenience doesnt matter now does it?
No light for 196 & 29… People need to just stay off the phones and DRIVE. you want a light,go to Molino Road and 29. Did a light at 29 & 97 stop the wrecks,”H” NO
I agree that all this needs to happen. However, other road projects need to be completed before we start tearing up more roads. Especially if the companies that will be bidding on this contract already are working on Hwy 29 or 9 mile road projects. If you can bid and start on this project, you obviously have enough crews to assist the other projects first. Finish the mess we already have first please.
There is not enough traffic at Molino Rd and Hwy 29 to justify a traffic light. What a waste of taxpayer dollars. And by closing the crossover at Dollar General is another big mistake, that is the most used crossover in Molino. Do another traffic study cause this one stinks!
Let the Florida DOT know your comments, Before all this really gets underway.
I see this as a start to a great plan for the north end of Escambia County..
BUT I am really not sure why a new traffic light is not going in @ Hwy 29 & 196 (Barrineau Park Road) ….this is an extremely dangerous intersection….with many accidents there through the years.
Drivers including Class 8 trucks exceed speed limit to 70-75 MPH
IF NOTHING else a flashing warning light should be installed at this intersection
I have lived in Molino 25 years
I have been almost run over several times…pulling out of my driveway….after giving on coming traffic almost a 1/2 mile advance warning….drivers not paying attention..
The only thing that will slow them down and break this excessive SPEED is a traffic light at Hwy 29 @ 196….
…the only long term solution for all these problems include trains inCantonment in to make US 29 an interstate from I- 10 to I-65 ..it will happen one day..may as well do it now
.
I am ecstatic to hear about the turn lanes at Quintette, and can assure you many others will be as well!
This will be fantastic . . . . there are dozens of accidents here every year and they aren’t caused by simple carelessness, there is a fundamental misunderstanding about the rules of the road and much of that comes from those driving from other states (Alabama).
I don’t know how many times i’ve seen cars coming up and down Hwy 29 on the wrong side of the road, not to mention what happens at the Tom Thumb intersection where cars turning right don’t give the right of way to people turning left . . . . I wish there was a left turn signal there as well.
@429SCJ
If you were talking about somewhere like Pace with a high growth rate and subdivisions everywhere I could understand, but honestly I just don’t see much growth happening in Molino.
If they paved the road with gold some of you cry babies would complain about it just be glad and thankful they are making these improvements some of you people need to go back and read what you have wrote it is ridiculous as to how many of you folks out there get things so screwed up and not to mention how ungrateful you all are
It is getting pretty crowed around here.
Quality of life here is no resemblance to that which it was in 1979, forty years ago.
People wanted growth well it would appear that they received their wish.
Welcome to the NFL, it will only become worse.
WE NEED A TURN LANE AT DUXBURY RD SOUTH NOT ENOUGH ROOM FOR THE SCHOOL BUS TO GET OFF 29 TO MAKE A SAFE TURN
Hopefully the signal will have sensors so that the north/south light isn’t turning red for no reason.
Odd that there is no mention of even a blinking caution light to be erected at Hwy 29 and Barrineau Park Rd/Hwy 196.
This is a God awful idea, it will cause more wrecks, without a doubt. Not to mention it’s going to make the drive into Pensacola even more unbearable.
I think a working red light @ Molino Rd is a mistake & definitely a huge mistake on closing the the median crossover @ Dollar General. There will be a increase in accidents when these so call road improvements are made. Cause so far the improvements made in town Ensley/Pensacola even if only temporary they are horrible. Fix it right the 1st time.
Going to be a mess during the summer months especially with Hurricane season around the corner!
Bring on the Walmart and fast food clutter. It’ll look like Pace in a few more years.
Where’s booth lake road? If the hiway engineers had sense they would’ve put service roads along 29 in Pensacola and made it semi limited access. Widening it isn’t gonna do anything.
This is another waste of money. How many accidents have happened there, and what was the cause of the accidents, and would a traffic light prevented them? Traffic lights do not, and will not correct careless driving. I had a person pull out in front of me there just a few weeks ago. They never saw me or the car in the left lane, which prevented me from making a defensive move by changing lanes. Yep they were both on their phones oblivious to the fact that I had slam on brakes to avoid an accident. Traffic lights will not correct this type of behavior.
If it is to allow for better access on and off the highway at this intersection, why not build acceleration / merging lanes?
Not sure this is the best use for our tax money. Traffic is not heavy enough to justify a traffic light at Molino Road and Hwy 29.
Guess there will be more accidents at bet raines now for everyone doing a u-turn to get to the dollar general ..
Tom thumb better get used the delivery trucks making u-turns in their parking lot
Bad idea to close the median crossover..
The community is in need of better drivers, less obstructions.
I always love new traffic signals. Their so great at helping traffic keep moving. Really great at 4:00AM and north and south bound lanes stop several cars and there’s no one at the east / west crossing. Just gotta love it when that happens, EVERY SINGLE DAY
Might as well put a light at 196 & lower the speed limit to 45 mph from 97 to the mill.
