Four people, including a local elementary school teacher, were arrested during a narcotics raid at a home Friday morning in Escambia County.

Desposito, 57, Thomas Clyde Meadows, 51, and Brandon Blake Satterfield, 24, with possession of narcotics and other drug related charges. Desposito, was also charged with trafficking. All four were booked into the Escambia County Jail.

Maines was released Saturday morning on an $8,000 bond, and Desposito was released on an $18,000 bond. Satterfield remained jailed Saturday morning with bond set at $3,500, and Meadows was jailed with a $3,000 bond.

The narcotics warrant was served about 5 a.m. in the 7300 block of Mimosa Drive. The ECSO Narcotics Unit discovered methamphetamine, cocaine, marijuana, an assortment of pills, firearms, a pill press, more than $12,000 in cash and other drug paraphernalia. Deputies also seized a sign that states “Drugs Destroy Dreams” and depicts a person thinking about a graduation cap and diploma.

“The sign in the photo came from inside the home, and it’s right drugs do destroy dreams, said Amber Southard, chief public information officer for the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office.

Sad to read some of these comments. I’ve lost all faith in humanity.

Maybe if teachers were paid more they wouldn’t get involved in criminal activity. I’m not condoning the actions nor do I know her. This is crazy.

She should be fired because of the fact she was in the house. It sickens me with some of these comments. Pray for them, Hell no I won’t. I will pray for the lives she helped destroy. Ms. Maines makes me sick. How many days did she teach kids high on drugs. How many days. You want to give her the benefit of the doubt. Wake up. She’s a teacher. 5:00 am, in a house that has drugs and selling drugs. She chose to hang with these people. She needs to have the law put her away for awhile. We trust our children with these teachers. would you drop your children off with drug addicts, drug pushers? I think not. One comment was she a good teacher. OMG.

I will leave the judging to the courts and God. Meanwhile I will continue to pray for Susan.

I have known Susan all her life, don’t believe she knew what was going on
there or had anything to do with it.

I have to admit in the past, I have rushed to judgement on stories exactly like this but I’ve known Ms Maines literally my entire life. I don’t remember a time that I didn’t. She is highly intelligent, educated, compassionate, a wonderful mother, teacher and a kind, giving person who is well respected within the education system. She had everything to lose and nothing to gain here. Sometimes we get trapped in a situation that financially, mentally or emotionally we can’t control or escape. We all know teachers don’t make a lot of money in Escambia County. I have to believe there is so much more to this story that will just have to play out.

TEMPTATION….This is ALL about a weak spirit yielding to Temptation.

Drugs are all around us, everywhere, every day.

AFFIRM your spirit and resist the evils of Temptation.

Besides being a teacher, who is supposed to be teaching how bad drugs are, look at the ages of these people. Grow up. This is so disappointing.

  9. Mayne on March 2nd, 2019 5:55 am

Don’t judge. Let the judge judge them on they judgement day. WDE

As a child, my teachers were the only positive role models I had. Had it not been for their influence who knows what decisions I would have made. I am sure all my teachers are saints. Anyway, I say that to say, as much as we want teachers to be saints, they are just people like the rest of us. They have their own struggles but rarely let it show. I think teachers are amazing.

As far as this case goes– it is best to let an investigation be done and let it go through the legal process. While being arrested shows a probable cause, it does not convict.

Drugs are very bad. I hope that this article can help parents and children open up and talk about things. 1) Choose your company wisely 2) Know when/where to seek help 3) Drugs are not the answer 4) Work to be healthy physically, mentally, spiritually, and financially.

And people think homeschooler’s are the problem.

This makes me so sad. She was a compassionate, caring , creative, effective teacher. It’s a shame a choice in friends, could cost you so much.

So much focus on the teacher but they ALL were in the wrong. They are ALL human and sin differently than you, or do they? Stop casting judgment remember we are still innocent until proven guilty in this Country. Those who live in glass houses should not throw stones!

  14. paul on March 1st, 2019 9:36 pm

And some think teachers should be armed.. ;)

  15. Stumpknocker on March 1st, 2019 7:53 pm

Her defense will be “ I didn’t know this was going on “ she probably won’t test positive for anything, never a good idea to use and sale.

  16. Gina W on March 1st, 2019 7:33 pm

Mrs Maine’s is a great teacher she really cares about her students lets not judge her teaching ability or character she is really innocent until proven guilty and arrest doesn’t necessarily mean you did it or was aware of what was going on let’s pray for her instead of judge her …..

I fully understand everyone bashing the teacher but… she had a career and did some good with her life. If she hadn’t done anything with her life then she would just be another no good criminal like the other three. So by all means share your two cent but split it equally between the four. Disclaimer: nope I don’t know any of them, didn’t go to Jim Allen or a teacher there. No I don’t approve at all. All four of them put our children endanger by allowing drugs in our community.

Every drug dealer should be charged with attempted murder. I’ve seen firsthand the destruction of these types of people cause in society. I’ve attended the funerals of too many friends’ kids who died at a young age from being caught up in drugs. Of course it’s their choice to begin using, but these dealers who supply the product need to pay the stiffest price possible.

This was my daughter’s teacher last year. She was such a sweet woman. I would’ve never thought in a million years she would be doing something like this. None of us know the situation of what went on at home but I can tell you she cared for her students and it showed.

  20. Lynda on March 1st, 2019 5:45 pm

I just wonder if these people actually believe they will get away with this Doing drugs or selling is a dead sentence eventually or a for sure jail sentence….always.

  21. Grand Locust on March 1st, 2019 5:45 pm

The failure of the drug war is affirmed each day.

  22. Sad student on March 1st, 2019 5:30 pm

She taught me when I was in 1st grade, 7 years ago, completely disappointed, I remember her telling us to never do drugs, or been touch them..

  23. Sunny on March 1st, 2019 5:07 pm

A teacher – this has really torn me apart. You hear about teachers and battery on students, sensual affairs, and now these pill popping, drug smoking/snorters. What is wrong with you people??

You hire these folks to teach our children, do background checks, and they pass without any issues. But random drug testing should be enforced to the fullest. The testing may have saved Maines her job and life-long dream of teaching.

AND, they should put Maines mug shot on the internet just like they do anyone else.

  24. Disgusted on March 1st, 2019 4:38 pm

    This completely disgusts me!!!

  25. Mary on March 1st, 2019 3:47 pm

SECOND GRADE TEACHER?! What the heck is wrong with these people?! A bunch of old coots living gangsta-life? Makes me sick.
