John Lewis Folsom, Sr.

Mr. John Lewis Folsom, Sr., age 92 of Daphne, AL, formerly of Flomaton, AL, passed away on Monday, January 21, 2019 at a Daphne, AL healthcare facility.

Mr. Folsom was a native of Georgiana, AL, and a member of the Flomaton community for 60 years coming from Marbury, AL.  He was a United States Arm Veteran having served in Japan during WWII earning the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Ribbon, Good Conduct Metal, Army Occupation Ribbon, Japan Victory Ribbon and one Overseas Service Bar.  Mr. Folsom served as an educator 40 years in the Escambia County Alabama School System, and eighteen of those years as Flomaton High School principal.   Mr. Folsom was a member of the Flomaton’s Lion’s Club, the American Heart Association, and the Alabama Silver Haired Legislature. He was a former member of Flomaton First Baptist Church where he served as Deacon Emeritus and for the last several years was active in First Baptist Church of Loxley.

He is survived by his wife, Shelmerdene Folsom of Daphne, AL; sons, John L. (Betty Ann) Folsom of Tifton, GA, Michael T. (Rita) Folsom of Clayton, N.C., Kenneth L. (Sharon) Folsom of Loxley, AL, Stephen C. (Tina) Folsom of Helena, AL; thirteen grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 26, 2019 at Flomaton Funeral Home Chapel from 5 P.M. to 8 P.M.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, January 27, 2019 at Flomaton First Baptist Church at 2 P.M. with Dr. Jerry Keese officiating.

Interment will follow in Flomaton Cemetery, Flomaton, AL.

Pallbearers will be Carter Folsom, Ken Folsom, Austin Folsom, Craig Asrhus, Wesley Buchta, Joey Braswell.

Honorary pallbearers will be Carter Folsom, Chris Morrow, Patrick Donnelly.

Flowers are being accepted but donations or contributions may be made to the Flomaton Public Library, American Heart Association and Isaiah’s Ministry.

    John Lewis Folsom sr was my great grandfather loved him a lot. I nearly cried my eyes out when I heard he had passed away. Every time I see memorys of him I start to cry. There was 1 thing I noticed his unique 1 laugh was like ha ha hah ha. He was one of the best people I knew. Love him to death and cant wait to see him in heaven.
