Santa Rosa Deputy Arrested On Child Porn Charges

December 18, 2018

A Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s deputy has been arrested for child pornography.

Sgt. Jeffery Perkins was charged with aggravated assault, reckless display of a firearm and eight counts of possession of child pornography.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement began an investigation based upon a citizen’s complaint was received December 12. On December 14, Perkins was involved in “an incident” that involved domestic violence, according to Chris Williams, assistant agent in charge of the FDLE Pensacola Field Office.  He declined to discuss the specifics of that incident during a Tuesday morning news conference.

Williams said the FDLE obtained a search warrant Perkins’ cell phone the evening of December 14 and discovered child pornography.

“We will prosecute this case to the fullest extent possible under the law,” State Attorney Bill Eddins said. He said a special prosecutor that specializes in child pornography cases will be assigned.

“Every once in a while you have somebody who doesn’t need to wear the badge, but we try to find them as quick as possible and get rid of them,” Sheriff Bob Johnson said. He said Perkins has been terminated. He had worked with the Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office since 2010.

Williams and Eddins said an active investigation is continuing.

Perkins’ booking mugshot was not available under a Florida statute that restricts the release of law enforcement officer mugshots. The photo was taken from a March promotion ceremony.

Woman Pleads For Return Of Service Dog Believed To Be Stolen

December 18, 2018

A Cottage Hill woman is pleading for the return of a service dog believed to be stolen.

Deborah Daugherty says her Great Dane named Daman was a therapy dog in training, and he was taken from her yard on Handy Road on Monday.

“I had a back surgery that went bad. Slowly but surely he has helped me walk again,” she said. He was more of a couch potato, someone had to open the gate and grab him.”

The theft, she said, has been reported to the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office.

“I miss him, you know,’ Daugherty said, her voice breaking. “I just want him back.”

Anyone that has any information about Daman should call the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office at (850) 436-9620 or Daugherty at (850) 982-4020.
