Report: Holman Prison Has Only About 40 Percent Of Required Security Staff
December 19, 2018
Holman Prison in Atmore has only about 40 percent of the required security staff, according to a report published Tuesday.
The Montgomery Advertiser reported that Holman employs just 72 of the 195 needed to staff the maximum security prison 24 hours a day.
Holman inmate Vaquerro Kinjuan Armstrong, 29, was stabbed to death December 2, and multiple more have been assaulted. One was airlifted to an area hospital after receiving multiple stab wounds. The December 2 incident prompted a security lockdown.
The newspaper reported that 951 inmates were housed at Holman, a facility that opened in 1969.

The inmates at that facility have TOO MUCH leniency in the jail and prison systems. ALL OVER THE COUNTRY!!!!!! No one really wants to work at Holman because the guards cannot even defend themselves without the inmates pressing charges on them for being inhuman/assaulting them. I just want to know when the world went to the trash?? These men are in prison for a reason. They have been found guilty by a panel of peers. Its time to treat them accordingly. LIKE INMATES. That does not mean mistreat them. But it also does not mean the guards have to take the crap from them either. The officers are supposed to be in control. Which Holman is completely out of control. Just saying….
@no surprise
A security cop at the mall doesn’t get state retirement or benefits. Just sayin’.
Tick Toc…..Tick toc
Is anyone surprised by this at all? I mean really? The state gives the inmates all the rights and the COs have to tiptoe around them. I’m surprised that they have any staff at all! One wonders how long it will be before they just lock ‘em up and let them sort it all out in the “big house” amongst themselves! Return the justice system to the those who administer justice and quit giving cons more rights than their guards, and maybe they’ll be able to keep some staff.
when the inmates have more rights than the staff it’s no surprise at all that they can’t hire people to work there. Add to that the substandard pay(a security cop at the mall makes just as much) and horrible work conditions. Gee, doesn’t take a brain surgeon to figure this one out.
