Hours After Triple Shooting Arrest, Atmore Council Yanks Chick-a-Dee Business License
November 14, 2018
Hours after an arrest was made in a triple shooting in Atmore, the Atmore City Council revoked the business license of the Atmore establishment where it all happened this past weekend.
U.S. Marshals arrested 34-year old Anji Lynn Baker of Bay Minette in Escambia County, FL, about midday Tuesday. He was booked into the Escambia County Jail without bond where he was being held as a fugitive from justice. He will be extradited back to Alabama to face three counts of attempted murder and a charge of shooting into an occupied building.
At a scheduled Atmore City Council meeting Tuesday afternoon, Atmore’s police chief asked the council to revoke the license of the Chick-a-Dee/The Assembly Hall on Carver Avenue.
“Due to individuals with a firearm, I am asking you to revoke their business license,” Chief Chuck Brooks told the council.
The council voted unanimously. to revoke the event center’s license to do business in the city.
The triple shooting happened during an event inside business early Sunday morning. Two victims were airlifted to a Mobile hospital where one was listed in critical condition and the other in serious condition. A third gunshot victim was transported by ambulance where he was treated and released. All three victims were adult males.
An Atmore police officer suffered minor injuries when he was struck with a barstool, Brooks said.
There were reportedly one hundred or more people at the business, which is about two blocks from the Atmore Police Department’s backdoor.

Move it out of the city limits
There has been multiple incidences at that location over the past 28 years.
Officers assaulted, shootings, etc. this was an every weekend thing. Back then it was just three of us working. Can you imagine? Now you will find 7 or more working. But, there should be consequences. He has been opened numerous times with still the same problems.
IF POLITICIANS DON’T BACK OFF AND LET CHIEF CHUCK BROOKS DO HIS JOB THIS WILL ONLY CONTINUE AND ATMORE WILL DISAPPEAR.
Hate it for the owner trying to make a living but this totally should have been done a long long long time ago. This place has been nothing but trouble.
@Chris, or those within.
I’m with John on this- has this place been consistently problematic? There has to be a reason that the license was pulled.
You can put pretty signs on the building, and little wreaths on the door, but it will never change what the reputation of the facility is.
If they can’t control the people in these types of places they should revoke the license
William,
Do you happen to know what kind of vehicle he was driving when arrested? I was in the Sports Academy parking lot yesterday when a Deputy tried to stop a black Infinity 4-door sports car. The car took off speeding away from the deputy. Just curious if it might be this suspect?
I understand the concern, but if we shut down every place that has fights and firearms present, Atmore won’t be left with much. There have been fights at plenty of establishments, and every other person carries a gun.
I’m assuming the business owner renting the facilities must be directly connected to the actual shooting? Or is it a knee-jerk reaction by the city? Or has there been a history of problems at that location…????
Good! The City Of Atmore should be commended for doing this and an example for all other places of business of this type that cannot keep patrons under control. All Cities and County licensed establishments everywhere should do this But stupid is as stupid does as this example of this patron. Just saying
