Highway 95A Crash Claims Life Of Cantonment Woman

A two vehicle accident Tuesday night claimed the life of a Cantonment woman.

The Florida Highway Patrol said 69-year old Desiree Dawn Mattair of Cantonment was northbound on North Palafox Street near Tower Drive when her 2003 Chevrolet Malibu drifted into the southbound lane about 7:30 p.m.. She collided with a southbound Ford Focus driven by 49-year old Mark E. Gruschow of Prosper, TX. Troopers said he was unable to avoid the collision.

Mattair was pronounced deceased at the scene. Gruschow was transported to West Florida Hospital with minor injuries.

The FHP is continuing their investigation.

    Also, let us not forget the physical and emotional pain the other driver has endured in this terrible accident. May he find peace and healing.

    Ms. Dawn was a regular customer at my job and over the years I became very close to her. Learning of her death has me shaken to the core. I had just spoken to her hours before. She was an amazing, sweet women who will be greatly missed by all. Condolences to her family in this most dificult of times.

    My sincere condolences for the loss a Dawn. As I know she suffered from a medical condition that limited her time here on earth, I am so deeply saddened of passing in such circumstances and just simply too soon. My co-workers and I absolutely adored her and her kitty, Gypsy, who is now in our loving care. May her family and friends be comforted during this extremely difficult time.
