Stolen Backhoe Recovered After Reader Tip

September 24, 2018

A stolen backhoe was recovered Sunday after a tip from a NorthEscambia.com reader.

Sunday morning, we published a story about a backhoe stolen Thursday night or early Friday morning from a worksite near Lowes on Nine Mile Road. By Sunday afternoon, someone who saw the story contacted the construction company and the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office after spotting the backhoe on Kenmore Road off Highway 29.

Someone had apparently started painting the backhoe black instead of its original orange color.

The Escambia County Sheriff’s Office is investigating.

Let’s paint the backhoe BLACK so it will blend in with all the other BLACK backhoes on the market LOL…

Great job to Northescambia, the readers who got involved, and LEO for finding this backhoe. Communities work best with citizens get involved and that requires good information being released in a timely fashion. Big thumbs up.

This may or may not help in the investigation.

When I went out to mow my lawn Wednesday afternoon I saw that someone had turned around on my properties North side street, Dorothy Ave, just about a block from Kenmore, West of Hwy 29. It was half block West of Melanie Drive. The tread marks dug deep into my lawn. They were definitely like those of a mid size farm tractor or a backhoe.

I have no idea when it happened, but for sure before 3PM Wednesday
