September 20, 2018

A bank on Nine Mile Road was robbed Thursday afternoon, and the suspect was taken into custody at  a Cantonment business just minutes later. And NorthEscambia.com has the exclusive photos and video.

Jamil Akil Winns, 35, is charged with the robbery of the Wells Fargo on Nine Mile Road at Chemstrand Road. He allegedly entered the bank and demanded cash before fleeing with an undetermined amount of cash, according to the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies caught up with him in the parking lot of A-1 Small Engines on Highway 29 in Cantonment. As seen these photos (video below), Winns was taken into custody without further incident. He was booked into the Escambia County Jail with bond set at $250,000.

Investigators could been seen removing cash from the Winns’ vehicle and placing it into evidence. At least some of the money was visible in the back floorboard of the car.

The proper answer to deputies with their firearms drawn is “Yes Sir!” Great Job ECSD! Very happy no one was hurt at the bank, in pursuit, or arrest!

“I ain’t doin’ nuttin’ man, whachoowant, I ain’t did nuttin’” yep, he DID do something and he has the audacity to ask the cop “whatchoo gonna do, shoot me?”. LEO shakes his head yes and the idiot decided maybe he’d be better off listening instead of being combative. Hmmmmm, maybe the perp did have a couple of brain cells to reason that the game was over and he lost. Great job by the LEO’s using restraint and good judgement. Jail time!!

Why do folks have to run their mouths upon apprehension??? I personally believe it is pure ignorance……just follow instructions and if it is unwarranted, you will have your answers, although I also believe he already knew the answers!!!! The ignorance usually comes after you realize you have been found out!! We are so dumbing down……..

That is some of the best spontaneous photography I have seen in fifty years of reading newspapers all over this country. It is so perfect, it almost seems staged. It is not staged and this was some incredible journalism. It captured all the elements of this crime without writing a word. A big thumbs up to the officers for both stopping this robbery and more importantly letting the press do their job and deliver these incredible photos. It is important for the press and the criminal justice system to work in concert to keep citizens informed. If only the national media could learn from some good old fashion journalism and police cooperation.
