New Traffic Light At 297A And Kingsfield Now Active

September 18, 2018

A new overhead traffic light was activated Monday at the intersection of Highway 297A and Kingsfield Road in Cantonment.

Other intersection work underway includes lane improvements, pedestrian amenities and drainage upgrades. The project is anticipated to be completed within the next few weeks. All activities are weather dependent and may be delayed or re-scheduled in the event of inclement weather.

Escambia County said the project will greatly improve general and school traffic along the two roadways.

How else were they supposed to put them up? Maybe they could have hung them with sky hooks. I bet if you donate them frequent traveler the county will use them.

To Tobe. I’m not being negative at all, I’m looking at the safety aspect of placement of non moveable objects at an intersection.

I for one, am a little saddened by all the change with roads and lights. I, along with my family moved out here to escape the city life and enjoy the country way of life 52 years ago and I am sad to see this escaping. They say that change is good. It looks like it has sprung up all around us now. I heard a song the other day by Dusty Sanderson titled four lane to a pasture. It sure spoke to my soul about how changes can be bad and good. I hope the light slows the accidents. I think living in the country slowed a lot of people down and that’s why we were luck enough to not have the fender benders that happen so frequently today.

Say it again Tobe! Some will always find the rain cloud in any situation. I think the traffic lights are awesome! I’m glad to see they are finally installed. After my last near miss on that road I’ve avoided. I will be happy to drive in that area again.

Looks good. Feels weird driving through the green light and not stopping there like every day before.

If you don’t drive like an idiot running into the new traffic light poles should not be a issue.

Regardless of the improvements made to anything, there will always be someone who will look on the negative side of the issue. Isn’t that right Frequent Traveler?

.Thank the Lord for these much needed improvements…NOW..IF FOLKS WILL USE THEIR COMMON SENCE , WE SHOULD HAVE FEWER ACCIDENTS THERE..and please don”t text and drive..you are not near as smart as you think you are…

I’ve never seen traffic signals installed like these. The new traffic light poles are installed like pedestrian crossing isles. There were many finder bender accidents at the four way stop without serious injuries. I pray no one gets killed hitting one of the huge traffic light support poles.
