FHP: Two Injured When Driver Crashes Into Parked Car

September 17, 2018

A Cantonment man is accused of driving under the influence and injuring two people as he crashed into a parked car early Sunday morning.

The Florida Highway Patrol said 28-year Stephen Neil Rigsby was traveling south on Pursley Avenue at 1:13 a.m. in a Nissan Altima when he hit a Chevy Corvette that was parked off the roadway.

Two people were attempting to get into the Corvette at the time of the crash and were injured. Julie Ann Gould, 47, was critically injured and transported as a trauma alert to Baptist Hospital. Patrick Daniel Gould received minor injures.

Rigsby was transported to Baptist Hospital with non-life threatening injuries and then booked into the Escambia County Jail. He was released on a $17,500 bond. Rigsby was charged with DUI causing serious bodily injury, leaving the scene of a crash and reckless driving causing serious bodily injury

@ Resident…The man selling the deer meat had 28 charges with bonds totaling $28,000. (Probably $1000. for each charge). The suspected drunk driver was charged with 3 different charges. DUI $5000., Hit & Run $7500., Reckless Driving with injuries $5000. So the bonds are higher, just not as many charges. These bonds were higher than usual for the charges, probably due to him having a previous DUI just over five years ago. Doesn’t look like he learned from that one. Wishing his victims a speedy recovery.

I wouldn’t use the word “Gentleman” to describe him. The victims were leaving a memorial for a loved one who recently passed. Their pain is heavy right now.

I would like to say that “Resident” has made some good, valid points.

If anybody reads these articles and pays attention to detail…please explain why this gentleman was charged with DUI, leaving the scene with bodily injury etc. and only received a 17,500 bond. The gentleman selling deer meat that was arrested received a 28,000 bond. It seems to me the gentleman arrested with DUI would be more dangerous to society..The DUI should be a felony also before selling deer meat would be. What some screwed up laws we have in Florida!!!
