ECSO Identifies Suspect That Caused Tate High Campus To Go Into Lockdown
August 15, 2018
The Escambia County Sheriff’s Office has identified a suspect that caused the Tate High School campus to go into lockdown Tuesday afternoon.
Deputies responded to a call of a suspicious person armed with a firearm near the school. They said James Edward Jordan, Jr., fled and hid under a mobile home in before being taken into custody on nearby railroad tracks.
Jordan, 34, was charged with obstruction of justice, resisting arrest without violence and possession of a controlled substance without a prescription. He remained in the Escambia County Jail Wednesday with bond set at $3,000.
The Tate High lockdown was after dismissal time, but was a precaution due to students on campus for extra-curricular activities.

I am a band parent and was notified immediately. Any patent who has a child in after school activities needs to be on a communication list and be involved.
Everyone who flees the cops should end up looking like this. To all criminals………stop running and you will have a prettier mug shot. One your whole family can be proud of.
3,000 dollar bond? Oh goodie, now he can get out and get another, possibly real, gun and become another shooters at schools. Ain’t that super great. I’m being sarcastic.
I know everyone would like to see more school resource officers, but retention at the ECSO is next to none , now even with the promised raises, they leave as soon as they can for better pay and other reasons. It’s my understanding that 16 are leaving to the neighboring county and maybe more, also leaving to other agencies. The patrol slots must be field before any sro slots. Patrol is the ones that show up for the active shooter or perimeter and other things and are an absolute necessity for day to day protection and proactive enforcement. Something needs to be done to convince them to stay, or get ready.
The law enforcement did do an awesome job now all Malcolm Thomas need to do is add more school resource officers at Tate High School, cause if he don’t then it will only get worse for them kids lives
Looks like you may need a little nose work.
Realignment if you will.
Someone in the trailer park said he had a BB gun, but a gun is a gun . And who was he looking for. Thanks for the quick response from ECSO
@ wow, fleeing is used while the suspect is using a vehicle, obstruction and resisting covers him fleeing from law enforcement, as far a the gun goes, who knows if he had one or if he tossed it while he was running away.
Great job to our police Officer. Thank all of you for all you do. God Bless
@ William for ALL Parents:
PLEASE, ALL Parents verify your Contact Number for home, office, Cell Phones and your Home Address with the Schools your children may be Attending.
The schools will WELCOME your Checking and Updating of Any and All information as it makes their job easier and more accurate and will make sure You can be contacted whenever needed.
Even if your address, phone, etc. has NOT Changed in the last 30 years it is a Real Good Idea to Verify with your kids schools.
Thank you….Anne
Where is the fleeing charge?
Wait! You have something on your face sir. Resisting without violence? Good thing he didn’t struggle. What about the weapon he was supposed to have?
Imo–I’m a band parent and was notified immediately. If you have a student on campus for extra curricular activities, check with the coach and make sure you signed up for their remind texts or that they have your number. I was notified through a group message tanscribed by someone affiliated with the band.
Janet- I’ve ALWAYS seen ECSO presence at Tate. It’s great to know they’re there as they have always been
I know this occurred after hours, but with children still on campus for extra-curricular activities why were parents not notified? I had a child on campus and often times I arrive early for pick up, however, nothing was sent out and I was in my vehicle the whole time!! Just curious.
I was driving on HWY 29 and saw all of the vehicles. I’m glad to see that the suspect was apprehended. Great job!
I’ve been glad to see Deputy Sheriff vehicles in front of the school the last two afternoons when I picked up my nephew at dismissal. Really glad the extra law enforcement is present in all of the schools.
Great job law enforcement. Now it is time for a judge to further protect students by putting the offender in prison.
