State Attorney’s Office Reviewing ‘Several Matters’ Involving Town Of Century
August 7, 2018
The State Attorney’s Office is reviewing unspecified items involving the Town of Century.
“We are doing a preliminary review regarding several matters regarding the Town of Century,” Assistant State Attorney Greg Marcille told NorthEscambia.com Monday evening. “A decision as to whether it will become a more complete investigation will be made at a later date.”
Marcille did not provide any further details.
Last week, three council members reportedly attended at least some portion of a closed door meeting with CPA Robert Hudson, Town Clerk Kim Godwin and the town’s auditors. The meeting was not advertised as a public meeting, which would forbid more than one council member from taking part under Florida’s Sunshine Laws.
Reports from town officials indicated that Sunshine Law violation allegations regarding the meeting were made to the State Attorney’s Office. However, Marcille did not confirm those reports.

i am confused. Century has a black mayor, a majority black city council, and a majority black population. How can the towns financial problems be blamed on white people? All they are doing is living in the town, paying taxes, water, gas, and sewage bills. They don’t make decisions regarding the towns business. The mayor and city officials do. The racism allegation is laughable. As is the mayor.
Dig Deeper,
I agree with your comment; it appears the Mayor has issues and may be in over his head. An elected official making such a ridiculous comment is for concerning.
Well this is most likely a positive thing. They need outside help to oversee and get things straight. I hope the states attorney recommends a full operational audit and then they will learn things and realize it’s not personal nor especially racial. (or shouldn’t be) It’s about running the municipality properly by ordinance. You don’t do it like you might think it’s supposed to be done. Things are clear and legal and properly laid out by the State of Florida how to do things. There is a manual to read and rules and laws to follow.
Simple
The comments given to WearABC were very telling of the attitude of the Mayor. He played the Race Card. Seems he doesn’t understand his position. This may be good for everybody.
Knowledge is powerful.
The Blame game solves nothing.
The Dawn of a new Century
What’s wrong with this picture the town don’t have money to pay for the payroll but can do $12,000 loans just saying ! We need all new people on the town council
I don’t know seem to remember the state attorney not doing such a great job when a council member was caught red handed abusing their office and extorting citizens for gas easements but that’s none of my business.
This has been prothosised for a few YEARS. TOO MANY hands in the pot stirring the beans…js.
@ tg: good and valid point. Like Tombstone, but Century could be the town “too inept to go away.”
i wonder who the whistle blower
What if the County does not want Century?
Courious George is wondering….which three council members attended the meeting??
I need a loan, can you help!
Well it’s about time.
Still waiting on my auto loan to be pre-approved. Could the State Attorney’s Office please speed up the process?
Could see this coming.
The State Attorney will do an excellent job during this investigation.
