Nine Mile Road Carjacking Foiled Because Suspect Couldn’t Drive Stick Shift; Bystander Pulls Gun
August 16, 2018
The Escambia County Sheriff’s Office is looking for a carjacking suspect that could not get away because he was unable to drive a stick shift when a bystander pulled a gun.
On August 9th, the suspect entered an occupied vehicle at the Circle K at 3225 West Nine Mile Road. He then pulled a gun on the driver and demanded he exit the vehicle, the ECSO said Wednesday.
The driver yelled for help. Another citizen heard him yell, exited his own vehicle with a gun and demanded the suspect get out of the car. Deputies said the suspect was unable to drive away because he couldn’t operate the standard transmission car. A surveillance video shows him running through the parking lot of a nearby business.
The suspect was described as a black male in his mid-20s. He was wearing a gray hoodie, black running pants with two white stripes down each side, according to the ECSO.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office at (850) 436-9620 or CrimeStoppers at (850) 433-STOP.

looks like a white guy wearing black shoes. humm. either way thank goodness most of the Millennials do not know how to drive stick. Age of technology has made for some stupid kids. And I’m not sorry for offending any one’s delicate sensibilities.
Grand Locust and his fists of fury would have taken him down with one hand and never spilt his beer………..the rest of us prefer a gun
@Grand Locust,
I conceal carry because that “low probability event” you’re talking about HAS happened to me…IN MY OWN HOME!
I conceal carry because I’ve been there and I refuse to be again.
I conceal carry because the criminals out there? You’d better believe they do!
I conceal carry because I have the COURAGE to stand up for myself because the police can’t be there 24 hours a day to escort me wherever I need to go and I intend to be safe and confident in that safety at all times.
I conceal carry because I am confident of my ability to think calmly and rationally when faced with difficult situations.
I conceal carry because I am rational enough to realize that there is no need to open carry and advertise to the world that I’m armed. A gun is a last ditch resort when all other options have been exhausted.
I conceal carry because that is my constitutional right and no one is going to tell me that I’m cowardly because I choose to take a stand for my personal safety.
Tell me again how cowardly I am. I’m waiting on tenterhooks for your rational response.
I wonder where Grand Locust is on this one. He has stated numerous times that people who carry concealed weapons are scared of the world and cowardly.
I have spent the day looking at that photo and I am convinced that it was my driver education teacher…..he could not use a stick shift either…..
A citizen intervened and nobody got hurt. That is a big thumb up, but when scardy cats start shooting without the training of LEO, it goes to that fundamental reason folks think they need a concealed weapon. They are scared of a low probability event will happen. Again, my brother as a child would put garlic in his bed after watching a vampire movie……fear combined with a low probability event is not a good combination. This citizen showed courage and self restraint. He might have intervened without a gun, because some people have been blessed with courage. If it was as simple as giving a test to find out who the scardy cats are, but police officers over many years weed out people who lack courage in their department and search for calm under high probability risk where their training and peer screening constantly improve the response, but it is clear that conceal permits for people who are irrationally scared cannot be screened by peers, and this will force the issue of stand your ground to be repeatedly visited not because of courage, but because of cowardly fear when discharging a weapon.
When, O when are these stores going to invest in surveillance cameras that you can actually see?
>>>3225 West Nine Mile Road is a shell station
It’s a Circle K that sells Shell gasoline.
Heather and GH i agree with yall this doesn’t look like a black guy
pants are white not black…..Got to be wrong picture or a set up.
We must not let the govt. take away our right to bear arms………….Criminals will bear them whether it is legal or not.

I agree with Heather. Granted, the photo is bad. But, it sure looks to me like a white male with no shirt and wearing shorts. Looks like the SO either released the wrong photo or wrong description.
My father would not let his daughters date until we could drive a stick. This is just as important today. Don’t leave young drivers defenseless.
I wonder where Grand Locust is on this one. He has stated numerous times that people who carry concealed weapons are scared of the world and cowardly. In then instance we see a PREPARED citizen coming to the aid of a fellow citizen in trouble. I don’t know about you folks but I consider that courageous not cowardly.
@ Heather glad you made the point, I thought I was the only one seeing this. so John don’t just profile anyone wearing a hoodie, You should do as I do, profile ANYONE that doesnt live in your house and you know very well.
Looks like the genius has a cell phone to his ear while he’s running. Maybe he had to tell his Momma that he wasn’t gonna make it home with milk and bread. I want to thank the armed citizen that foiled this robbery, but I am glad he didn’t shoot because I’d hate to see the most reverend Al come here to make a spectacle of it all.
>>The picture I see looks like a white male with no shirt and grey shorts. Is the picture wrong or the description.
Both are exactly as provided by the ECSO.

My first three daily driver cars were manual transmission during my first 18 years of driving. I’m glad my Dad taught me how to drive the first one and I have driven others since. Young people today don’t think they need to learn because only a small percentage of cars today are manual transmission, but I will teach my son when he is old enough. I hope this guy is caught soon.
Millennial automotive theft prevention foils another moron. Glad no one was injured and I hope the LEO’s gets him soon.
Why does it take a week to get this information to the public?
We have had 90° and 100° degree days all summer, and we aren’t supposed to think nothing of it (to discriminate or profile) when we see an african american wearing a hoodie…..i think not, I will continue profile anyone wearing a hoodie regardless of your color, especially when the weather doesn’t warrant it!
Nothing runs like a Deere.
Except maybe a criminal cutting through their lot.
That’s what I’m talking about, some good citizen with a gun. Sorry he couldn’t hold the guy until a LEO arrived.
