August 25, 2018

An Escambia County man has been charged with soliciting sex from a student at a school bus stop.

Micheal Peavy, 21, approached the student at a school bus stop in the area of West Jackson Street and Blanton Court Thursday morning, according to the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies said he solicited sex from the student while the student waited for their school bus.

Escambia County Sheriff’s Office School Resource Officers were called to the scene after receiving the report. Peavy was arrested after their investigation.

Peavy was charged with lewd and lascivious behavior (solicitation). He was booked into the Escambia County Jail with bond set at $15,000.

    CONSIDERING:
“Your child has a better chance of being hit by lightning than kidnapped by a complete stranger. It is extremely rare.”

    Stands to reason

“About 100 lightning bolts strike the Earth’s surface every second That’s about 8 million per day and 3 billion each year.”

    REGARDING:
    “Do you know…

That the Escambia school district allows your child to be put off the bus up to a MILE away from their home?”

Not every home is accessible to a school bus. You would throw a fit if a school bus stopped every 100 feet to pick up and drop off children and even then, the parents might not be home or sober enough to even come to the door.

Many of you can’t even be bothered to stop for a stopped school bus even though you risk killing them every time you shoot by when the stop arms are out. Nothing requires parents to send children to the bus stop alone — other than inconvenience.

“Whether a parent chooses to have their children walk what is known as a “reasonable walking distance” is left to the parent’s discretion. However, it is the distance at which transportation services begin. The reasonable walking distances between home and the bus stop are:

    · 1/2 mile for elementary school students
    · 1 mile for high school students

“* Florida Administrative Code establishes the distance between home and the bus stop as 1.5 miles for all students, but the Escambia County School District has set a different criteria.

“Note: Distances apply only to the extent that publicly-maintained all-weather roads can be accessed”

I was at the school transportation website yesterday for another reason. I noticed they had posted, “we are always hiring”. So there is a shortage of workers. I also know a man that drove a school bus several years ago. When I heard he quit I asked him why. He said you cannot control the bad kids. He said he tried to discipline a female student, but she threatened to claim he made sexual advances towards her. He quit.

Do you know that children go missing every single day not to far away from where we live?

Parents need to be calling and raising cane about the children being put off the bus so far from the bus stops when crap like this is going on. Children should not be left at bust stops alone! and should not be put off the bus ANYWHERE but their homes! The county can pay for a lot of thing which are not necessary but, can’t pay for another couple of bus drivers so that all children can be put off at their homes.

This rule applies to even children with IEPverified disabilities. We just had a go-round with the transportation department here in the North End.
