ECSO: Man Charged With Abuse After Cancer Patient Mom Found In Feces Covered Mobile Home

August 10, 2018

A Beulah man has been arrested for neglecting his mother, who was a cancer patient, after she was found  living in a mobile home surrounded by dogs and feces, according to the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office.

Timmy Glen Godwin, 59, was charged with neglect of an elderly person or disabled adult.

A sheriff’s deputy conducting a welfare check reported at least 10 dogs ran out of the home on Rebel Road when Godwin opened the door. Godwin told deputies that he lives at the residence with his 79-year old mother and his sole caregiver.  He said she was discharged from the hospital about four weeks ago.

Godwin told the deputy he has 18 dogs and one cat. The deputy reported Godwin seemed more concerned about the dogs than his mother.  The deputy noted Godwin had feces on his fingers, legs and feet. When asked why, Godwin said he had been digging in the backyard.

The deputy could smell animal urine and feces and saw animal vomit on the floor as he entered the home. He found Godwin’s elderly mother lying on a hospital bed in the living room. The bed was surrounded with animal urine and dog feces. There was dog feces on the elderly woman’s feed, and there was feces on the bedding, according to an arrest report.

The mother told deputies that she had not bathed in four weeks, about the time was released from the hospital. She said she suffers from lymphoma, lung cancer and liver cancer, and has had multiple strokes, the report states.  She said she had not received medical care since arriving home from the hospital.

Godwin told deputies that he suffers from multiple medical problems, some of which  limit his mobility.

The deputy also noted that the refrigerator contained molded and rotting food, but there did appear to be other food in the residence.

He remained in the Escambia County Jail with bond set at $10,000.

State Adult Protective Services was called by the Sheriff’s Office, but did not respond. The report does not state if the elderly woman was removed from the home.

I don’t know what this man’s problem is but he has some major issues. My Mama had cancer and so did my mother in law. We lost both of our Mama’s to cancer. I know how much a cancer patient goes through and the pain is unimaginable. How can somebody do this to anyone and how could you do it to your own mother. I hope you get what you deserve. I don’t know what else to say other than… HOW DOSE THOS PERSON SLEEP AT NIGHT!

It is tough enough dying, and not everybody was meant to be a caretaker when they are unable to care for themselves. Criminalizing neglect of the elderly is about tenth on the list of what can be done to help people in need, but if she can now find a clean and safe environment, it would be good, but I would bet doughnuts to dollars she will shortly want to go home……none of this is easy, but I guess putting somebody in jail at taxpayer expense is easier than using those same funds to help people who are sick to get hospice care and well being checks. We always look for that easy button.

If you knew this man, you would know how absolutely unshocking this is. He has always lived this way.

Molded and rotting food can be in anyone’s refrigerator if you don’t take a look in there often enough. I found some mold on cheese the other day just after buying it 2 weeks earlier. Opened it once and molded. So I’m not making this a big deal. But the not bathing could possibly set up some bed sores and infection on that poor old lady. Dog and cat poop/urine on the floor – Oh My Gosh – sickening.

With all that the lady suffers from, there has to be some medication and treatments she is supposed to be getting. This totally blows my mind. Hopefully she is in a proper facility this afternoon to be cared for. Her son can stay home and get that crap and urine cleaned up. Next – Animal Control will be there getting it done along with taking the animals. That is so disgusting to walk around with dog and cat poop on your hands and feet if that’s what it is.

Prayers for the lady to get the proper help and cleanliness she deserves. Her son can stay filthy and live among the poop and urine.

    Lord, watch over this lady.

This story is extremely sad and rates high on the “ICK!!!” scale

Although, Having old food in your fridge is not a crime…….Quick reminder…….Go home and clean out my fridge

    In all seriousness:
In my opinion the elderly is the most abused segments of society. The should be looked up to and revered.

Parents watch how you raise your children. They will one day be making the decisions about your well being.

    the very face of evil!

did not respond!?! does this mean the woman is there alone? say it isn’t so! i hope she has somebody else besides this guy! :(

  14. Kane on August 10th, 2018 1:04 pm

They arrested the guy? Maybe he should have a mental evaluation done to see if he is even capable of taking care of himself because it sure does not sound like it. I get he wasn’t taking care of his Mother but it does not look like he was caring for himself or the dogs/cat in his care.

Elderly people as in her case has medicare and social security. May not be much, but State run Nursing Homes will care for her. What happens is the family wants to think they can care for sick family members. Which in this case it really is saying they don’t want the life savings,( may not be much), personal assets such as money all going to the State. Unfortunately, sometimes it must happen that way. This woman needs to be moved to a facility where she can receive daily around the clock care. What happened here when Home Health Care could have been called to assist?? A benefit to medicare recipients for at least 60 days. Maybe a person showed up and was turned away. When being released from the hospital, they reach out to the proper agencies to continue giving to patients. Godwin is 59 yrs old and could get a job doing something. Digging in the yard so he says hasn’t stopped him with medical issues. Too many lazy people coming up in this world with a zillion excuses not to work.

I hope and pray the mom has been removed from the home and placed in proper care. This is really sad.

  17. CW on August 10th, 2018 9:12 am

Surely they didn’t leave the woman there by herself?

Unfortunately I think we’re going to see a lot more of this in coming years. Lots of baby boomers are getting older with no savings, and many do not have children capable of caring for them. It’s sad.
