Century Burglary Suspect Caught Red-Handed

August 3, 2018

A Century man was arrested after an Escambia County Sheriff’s deputy allegedly caught him red-handed trying to break into a home.

Christopher George Pace, 35, was charged with attempted burglary, felony criminal mischief and possession of burglary tools.

Deputies responded to a call on Front Street where they were told a man was trying to breaking into  neighboring home. As the deputy walked around the corner of the house, he heard banging and found Pace attempting to pry open a window, according to an arrest report.

The deputy demanded Pace drop a hammer and crowbar he was holding and placed him under arrest.

Deputies found two window frames that were damaged by prying and shattered glass.

In 2017, Pace was convicted of burglarizing the old Alger-Sullivan Lumber Co., just feet from the Front Street house he is accused of burglarizing this week.

Pace entered the fence of the business at 1 Lumber Road with the intent to steal lumber and light fixtures. At the time of his arrest, deputies found him in possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.

He was sentenced to 180 days in jail for the 2017 offenses.

Pace remained in the Escambia County Jail Friday morning with bond set at $26,000.

When he catches a bullet for home intrusion then society will be done with him. He’s a chronic offender, he wont stop, his days are numbered.

I’ll never understand a thief! Our judicial system is too laid back. Cut their damn hands off 1st offense!
Inhumane they say? He committed an inhumane act. 26k bond? I don’t understand how that works?

What about the ones he stole from? Do our law makers understand the humility, the violation, the total loss? It’s not the monetary value. It’s how hard you worked for it! It’s an utter disgusted emotion only one who has been violated would understand. It’s not replaceable. Sure you can go buy another but its not the same. . My car was broke into several years ago. They pried the back door open with a crow bar. They took everything but an Allen wrench and an Auburn hat. I put it in the shop. When I got it out I sold it. It was never the same. It was not mine. I’ll never have another tonneau cover on my truck because crack head thieves cut in from end to end and stole all my tools with no regard! They got probation!
There has got to be stricter laws on these demons! A thief is a thief is a thief! There is no rehabilitation for one who thinks it is quite alright to take something that is not theirs. I do not feel sorry for thieves. They know right from wrong. If they didn’t, they would not disguise themselves. They have no remorse!
