Santa Rosa Inmate Sentenced For Attack On Correctional Officer, Inmate

July 28, 2018

A Santa Rosa County inmate will spend the rest of his life in prison for an attack on a corrections officer and an inmate.

Mauricio Meza, 26, was convicted of attempted first-degree murder and aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer. He was immediately sentenced to life plus an additional 30 years.

In March 017, Meza stabbed a correctional officer and another inmate with a handmade weapon. Prior to the attack, Meza had used a handmade handcuff key to remove his handcuffs and leg iron restraints.

Meza admitted to the stabbing and told investigators that he had made the weapon several days earlier. The officer, who has been employed with Department of Corrections since 2005, sustained severe damage to his hand. These permanent
injuries will prohibit him from working as a correctional officer. The inmate was stabbed nine times causing severe injuries, including a collapsed lung.

At the time of the incident, Meza was serving a 13 year sentence for second degree murder and robbery.

I agree some officers do stuff that is totally unprofessional and uncalled for, but you’d be surprised at some of the things inmates do to officers on a daily basis just because they think it’s amusing, for example it’s a daily occurrence for inmates to hold in a nasty fart just so they can fart at you as you walk by.

I feel for c.o. trying to do job get attacked, then you have co’s @BWRCF that are soo green I pray for their safety. Then at same facility BWCF that are NASTY! Inmates are told idc what u do to each other, (spice etc) kill yourselves leave us alone! Wrong attitude, will get himself killed by high inmate. Then they say things to inmates to belittle and degrade the inmates. They are people still if in jail. Yes some get what give, but PLEASE ALL officers try to think if necessary to be plain and simple MEAN & NASTY to ALL. There’s also c.o.’s at BWCF that are AWESOME Miller, Taylor, Williams and several other’s Idk names take pride in job they do. Thanks to all who work corrections doing their jobs and not abusing power !

Fortunately the officer did not lose his life, DOC is becoming a bad place to work. The legislature needs to wake up and do something about the problems in DOC before the next officer loses more than the ability to do his job.

    REGARDING:
“let’s not execute him, but continue to let him live for the rest of his life behind bars.”

That may not be as long as his mother would wish.
It’s hard to make friends when you keep trying to kill them.
We all need friends to watch our backs.

As to killing people who have not killed, the Supreme Court has ruled that is excessive punishment and unConstitutional, so due to the marvels of modern medicine, he is not a murderer yet, just an incompetent wannabe.

David for good doctors, close at hand

“Every inmate that assaults staff should have an automatic 30 years minimum added to their sentence.”
so what do you think a c.o. should get for assaulting an inmate?

Can’t we please revisit Alcatraz and put these prisoners there? But this time let them swim back to shore. They won’t make it and guards won’t be in danger. No power. Surviving will be their daily goal, give them something to do.

Hey!!! I have a good idea, let’s not execute him, but continue to let him live for the rest of his life behind bars. Every day of his useless life he will constantly be planning his next attack….wherein he might actually kill someone next time.

I guess he wasn’t happy with 13 years he needed a more secure and stable environment in prison the rest of his life not worrying about having to to pay anything for the rest of his life. That’s sad!!
