Former Local Resident With No Arms Charged With Stabbing Man

An Atmore native and former McDavid resident with no arms has been charged with stabbing a tourist in Miami Beach in a case that has made international news.
According to Miami-Dade Corrections records, 46-year old Jonathan Dale Crenshaw remains jailed on an aggravated battery charge with bond set at $7,500.
Crenshaw had spent the last few years painting with his feet for Miami Beach tourists, according to the Miami Herald. But last week, police say he held a pair of scissors with his feet as he stabbed a 22-year old tourist from Chicago.
Crenshaw, who is homeless, told police he was lying down when the tourist punched him in the head. The armless man then stabbed the tourist with scissors and walked away, the Miami Herald reported. The tourist suffered an injury to his arm and was transported a local hospital. He told police he stopped to ask for directions before Crenshaw jumped up and stabbed him.
Records indicate Crenshaw was born in Atmore in 1971 and was living in McDavid when he was arrested by the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office in 2004. He was convicted of improper exhibition of a firearm after he pulled a gun on someone, according to Escambia County court records.
In a 2016 feature story, he told the Miami New Times that he was born without arms, his mother fed him rat poison, and the government drilled his sharp teeth in half. He also told the newspaper the he had fathered 200 children with music superstar Gloria Estefan.

Why would a tourist walk up “close” enough to an armless homeless person to wake them to ask directions when there are gas stations, google maps, so may other ways to get directions? Maybe to bullie? Probably.
This is not the 1st time he’s been in trouble. You can google no arm man freaks out and watch a video where he destroys a hotel lobby.
This man has probably been harassed & bullied all of his life (example shown in Dook’s comment above) and is ready to retaliate quickly although it may not always benefit his situation. Learning to compensate to provide for and protect himself is commendable but it seems there is certainly more going on. He may have been startled awake and just reacted due to previous experiences or attacked as he said. Maybe there is surveillance video that will tell the truth.
I like Gloria Estefan, too.
It’s hard to believe he could do all those things with no arms.
But, if anybody can, an Estefan fan can.

I remember seeing him when he was a boy. He cut grass with a push mower and I wondered how he cranked it. Apparently with his feet. He could have just been a deadbeat and lived off society, but instead he worked. Some bully just felt like they could abuse a handicapped guy. Now the bully knows the strength of a determined guy!
He has learned to use his feet to compensate!

I remember seeing this guy walking down hwy 4 just outside of byrneville alot when I was a teenager. I was always told not to mess with him cause he’d kick the crap out of anyone that did. Was never warned of weapon attacks though. Sounds like he really needs to get a handle on his situation. ….
