Two Century Correctional Officers Assaulted

June 8, 2018

Two correctional officers were recently assaulted at Century Correctional Institution.

Inmate Andres Hernandez assaulted the officers by striking them in the face, according to the Florida Department of Corrections. Officials said staff responded appropriately, and the inmate was subdued.

Medical staff examined the officers and noted injuries. Inmate Hernandez will receive a disciplinary report for this assault.

Hernandez is serving an eight year sentence for multiple convictions, including kidnapping, aggravated battery and aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, aggravated fleeing and resisting an officer with violence. He was incarcerated February 22.

    @Shush,

WRONG. I’ve spent the last 20 years of my life working in a prison, so I know EXACTLY what I talking about. I can’t speak for the others, but I can certainly speak for myself!!

    REGARDING:
“All of you people commenting have no knowledge of what goes on inside a prison. It’s obvious from your remarks you have no first hand knowledge and garner all your ill informed decisions from television and main stream media outlets. Prison is a BUISNESS and a profitable one. Most prisons are now privatized.”

True, I haven’t seen the insides but only 7 are privatized, NOT most. Further, this specific one definitely isn’t and that is what matters here.

Most prisons are now privatized. I bet you geniuses didn’t know that. The lion’s share of the c.o.’s are examples of the “Lucifer complex”

I agree. After all he gave up his rights when convicted so why should an inmate assault a correctional officer with just a slap on the wrist. It should be a life sentence. Think about how little they make and they are just as locked up as the inmate is during their shift. Hold the inmates accountable.

He should be charged with two counts of battery on a LEO, stripped of all visutation, phone priviledges, commissary items and placed in solitary confinement for the rest of his sentence. That wouldn’t do anything to correct his behavior, more than likely, but it would be one heck of a deterrent to the other prisoners.

I agree nod. Let’s make an express lane.

Oh good. A disciplinary action. Why is he not charged for assault on a correctional officer and then give him another 10 years?

  9. People wake up. on June 8th, 2018 10:05 pm

People wake up even if the inmate gets outside charges it don’t much matter because most of them are already are serving life. If we would quit feeling sorry for them and go back to the ball and chain, make them work in the field. They might stop and think before they do stupid things. Look up what a C.O salary is, you probably would shock at it. These people put their life in harms way everyday. Officer’s needs to be given the tools to protect themselves and maintain order in the prison systems. If they had these tools it would make it safer for Officers and inmates alike.

He still hasn’t learned, has he? Resisting/assault on an LEO when he was arrested too. He better hope he doesn’t need something from the CO’s some day, or he’ll wait a LONG time to get it.

To those wanting new charges- That would mean all of the actions of the court the same as if he were on the streets. It would give him trips to the court if video was not used, and the extra security involved with inmate transports. This stretches understaffed COs even further. He may indeed receive new charges for his attack, but if he doesn’t, could be many reasons why.

How about 8 years in solitary then we can add 8 more years for assaulting the officers.

  13. mick on June 8th, 2018 10:41 am

Give him 8 more years and bread and water for 30 days quit pampering cons IT’S PRISON!

  14. Willis on June 8th, 2018 10:31 am

    Poor inmates.
All they done is rob, steal and kill a few people.
Can’t we be a little more sensitive to their needs…..
Or maybe stop excepting this crap

Why continue writing out these “disciplinary reports” on totally useless individuals. Rehabilitation – my foot! My daughter works at a prison in the medical field and I worry about her safety every day. We need to stop contemplating about how many conjugal visits this trash should have in any given time period and get back to reality.

  16. sam on June 8th, 2018 9:06 am

that’s what we get when we cut back on their visits and cut back on their contraband.

  17. WTH on June 8th, 2018 7:43 am

He gets a DR, big freaking deal, whatever happened to additional charges!!!!!!!

neck tattoo, career criminal. 30 days in solitary, most likely. some like the solitude though, i imagine.
