Man Charged With Assaulting Corrections Officer In Century Prison Parking Lot

June 29, 2018

A Century man has been charged with the assaulting a corrections officer in the parking lot of Century Correctional Institution with a tree branch.

William Edward Macks, 59, is facing one felony count of a aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.

According to an Escambia County Sheriff’s Office arrest report, Macks approached the female corrections officer as she arrived at Century CI. She stated that Mack aggressively walked toward her vehicle causing her to stop because she feared she was about to hit him with her vehicle.

Macks then began to swing a large branch towards the corrections officer, causing her to believe that he was going to hit her through her vehicle window, according to the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office. After ordering Macks to go away, he walked away to the other side of the street while cursing her.

The incident was witnessed by several other corrections officers, according to the report.

Macks’ listed address is directly across the street from a Century CI facility on Tedder Road.

He remained in the Escambia County Jail Friday morning with bond set at $5,000.

Everyone:FYI– his family has tried to help over and over. I’m sure none of you who have commented have any family with issues. The Macks family is the only family with problems–UH wrong!! In fact many of them have college educations and are productive members of society!! Those that do have mental problems or demons from family curse need God!! Also long term mental health would be great but unavailable to many!! Please no longer bash the family after fourty years of mental problems the great Lord we have is the only one who can take control of the matter! Under the circumstances the individual is willing to let God in and help. He does call himself many names BTW

Wish all family’s had mental health issues so maybe not so critical it’s not the family’s fault it’s the law for not picking him up and looking over him because they feel sorry for him or not to say bad about all law who I respect it is the hospital and legal system for not sending him off when the family gets him picked up to go to hospital. And you all that mentions family gets him out don’t know what you talking about , the law the hospital and the jail lets him out or if not the family lets him stay there

KAYLENE…. no one calls Wild Bill by Mr. Gus. I think you have your people confused. This same man (that hhs a heart and is such a great guy) was barred from odom’s for throwing a chair at the bartender. At which time he threatened to kill her, her family, and burn the bar down. Next day he was ran out a Century Auto Parts and barred from there. The next day, cops removed him from Dollar General and placed on that barred list.
So bless his lil heart. Maybe he’ll get a L-O-N-G stay in a mental institution before he actually injures or kills someone

Bless HIS & YALL’S HEART!!! WHEN SPOKEN TO RESPECTFULLY….AS A HUMAN….this MAN has a HEART! I have had a number of encounters with him. “Mr.Gus” as he prefers folks to know him as if they have never met or heard of his name publicly. He has serious mental damage….HE even ADMITS this! Shame on ALL WHOM choose to cast away the damaged. YOIR DAY WILL COME. God BLESS!

John, they do bond him out. Maybe you need to do a little checking before you criticize what some people know. This craziness has been going on for years. How he didn’t get charged with animal abuse the last time he was locked up, I’m not sure.
I as I said his family needs to step up and take care of their problem!

You are right ProudArmyParent. Well said Wendall, most of them are wild & crazy, even the men that you wouldn’t think, they’re bullies and cowards when it comes right down to it. Abusive, especially to women, even their own. This one has always done stuff, but then again there’s always someone that tries winning over a criminal, no one hardly ever wins with a criminal, most of the time they’re always a step ahead. I don’t think he’s as crazy as what people think, it may be that he acts it. The other story was one of his brothers. John, hahahaha they do bail them out, you get your facts straight, you sound like you might be one of them, Big Bad John. I know for a fact they bail them out. Oh yeah, I’m one that knows. Most of them are alcoholics. Just ask some of the people that actually stay away from them. Life with them can come to ruin people especially those that don’t get away soon enough. I do have my story straight. If you’re crazy they try to make you that way.

Them Mack boys are wild, ya’ll; steer clear XD

He is a threat to himself and to all who travel up and down Tedder Rd. He will jump out at cars, throw things, he has even been found laying in the grass at the Work Camp naked. Baker Acting him only holds him for a few days. He has family, they need to deal with their problem, instead of continually bonding him out!

It is said he needs court order for a supervised mental health facility long term other than the prison system as well as do many others . Group home

“Don’t bring a branch to attack a Correctional Officer”.
Relieved the CO wasn’t injured and that Mr. Macks was taken into custody fairly easily.

God Bless ALL of our Corrections Officers, LEO, and First Responders who never know what situation will be part of their day or night.

“Hey, lady. Is this your branch?”

    (It COULD happen.)

Corrections personnel face danger on the streets too, not just on their jobs. This is a prime example. Inmates with an axe to grind will arrange for off duty officers to meet some of their people sometimes. It doesn’t always turn out pretty. Glad this officer wasn’t hurt. This guy sounds like a real genius. Or, he was trying to go to (or back to) prison.

  17. tg on June 29th, 2018 7:50 am

Maybe he wants to move across the street.

  18. Calvinqualls5 on June 29th, 2018 7:11 am

Something all ways going on at century prison both inside and out

  19. Duke of Wawbeek on June 29th, 2018 5:24 am

His family can just walk across the road to visit him.

You have to see the good in everything, no matter how severe the contrary.

I guess he wanted to move across the street….
