K-9 Takes Loaded Shotgun From Suspect, Credited With Saving Officers (With Bodycam Video)
June 21, 2018
The newest K-9 at the Pensacola Police Department is being credited with saving the lives of several officers and a suspect after the police dog took a loaded shotgun out of the hands of an armed burglary
suspect.
The incident occurred at 137 North K Street early this morning when 36-year old Oliver Hurst went across the street to a girlfriend’s house and forced his way inside the front door armed with a shotgun. He threatened the woman with the gun before retreating back to his residence. Police were called, and when officers arrived, they observed Hurst on his front porch.
Hurst refused orders from officers to surrender, and he ran inside his house. Officers pursued Hurst into the home and observed him grab the shotgun from a couch. K-9 Foster, an 18 month old German Shepherd, latched onto the shotgun and pulled it from the hands of Hurst. Officers deployed a Taser on Hurst who was then taken into custody as K-9 Foster took the weapon away from the area and into another room where it was seized by officers.
Because of the quick actions of K-9 Foster, the suspect was not able to fire the shotgun at police, and the officers did not have to use deadly force on Hurst.
Hurst was taken into custody and charged with armed burglary, aggravated assault, battery, criminal mischief, and aggravated assault on an LEO.
K-9 Foster and K-9 Nashoba were both purchased from generous donations made by Pensacola residents Dana and Lisa Foster.

K-9 fan said it all.. A dog is more honest and loyal than people. That is for certain!!
Someone needs to feed this to our national news such as GMA! this is absolutely worth national recognition! Way to go to our local PPD and to this genius animal! This is truly amazing what a K-9 can be trained to do.
I have the absolute most respect for the K-9 teams. I am a dog person myself and know just how smart an animal can be. We have had three Dachshunds one of which is Dachsund and Pomerainian They understand direction, commands, numbers, etc. They are loved and they love us, unconditionally.
This story sounds good all in all, but I don’t have much faith in the system to where our officers or the public won’t be put in harm’s way again dealing with this scumbag!!!
GOOD DOG ! ! !
Way to show ‘em how it’s done, Foster! You are a hero in anyone’s eyes.
It never ceases to amaze me how much our canine companions can learn just by human interaction. Not just pure breds, either. I’ve got two mutts that are smarter than a lot of people. Almost any dog anywhere will quickly bond with a human companion and learn words, hand signals, even signals using nothing but eyes. That’s why it tears my heart out to see a dog abandoned or abused, as happens every minute of every day. That animal is in physical and mental pain, they long to love and be loved.
A dog that knows a gun is dangerous, that a stranger is going to hurt the person they love with that gun and has enough intellect to take away that gun and carry it out of reach of the one that’s threatening their person: Don’t ever call him a dumb animal. There is no such thing!
People are stupid, for the most part, in my not so humble opinion. Dogs in particular are some of the most intelligent creatures on earth. This one will go down in the history books. Foster is famous!
That’s one bad a$$ dog! Well done officer!
Great work Officer Foster! And thanks to the Fosters for making Officer Foster a part of the PPD!
Well someone deserves a nice big steak for dinner!!
What a dangerous job! God bless them all!
