May 13, 2018

Multiple children and at least one adult were injured in a wreck Sunday afternoon at the intersection of Highway 297A and Kingsfield Road in Cantonment.

The Florida Highway Patrol said 26-year old Enrique Ramos, 26, was southbound on Highway 297A when he failed stop at a stop sign at the intersection with Kingsfield Road. His vehicle collided with a 2013 Chrysler driven by 43-year old Jennifer Heath of Cantonment. She was not injured.

The FHP report states there were six passengers in Heath’s vehicle. A 12-year old, Douglas Meenan and 71-year old Bonnie Meenan of Cantonment were seriously injured. A 3-year old and a 14-year old received minor injuries. An 8-year old child was not injured.

Ramos was cited for failing to stop at a stop sign.

The Ensley and Cantonment stations of Escambia Fire Rescue also responded to the crash, along with Escambia County EMS.

So far 3 of my 7 family members are still in the hospital. I am the one that was in the back right. Thank goodness I was asleep and relaxed and not stiff.

I know this family I’m related and I’d like to say we all as a community need results to end wreckless and careless driving. I’m thankful the family is okay. Be smart and drive responsible!

Thanks William! I couldn’t remember if this was selected as an intersection to install a light.

With TWO schools there, it’s time to have a light..and a camera! Every time I take my child to Ransom, all the cars try to go through the intersection in pairs facing eachother. William, you are listened to. Do you think you can create an article about how to legally go through a four way stop intersection? It’s clear that young and old alike need a refresher lesson to keep us safe. sheesh. The hospitals would appreciate it too, I’m sure. Thanks.

I know this won’t be a popular opinion but maybe they should put a light there. Many times I have gone through that intersection and there will be an impatient driver that refuses to wait their turn at the stop sign. It is dangerous when they do that.

Paying attention is the simplest thing when driving. Too bad people can’t master that
