A manhunt near McDavid for a wanted individual turned up empty Monday night.
According to reports, the man made contact with a resident in the area of Highway 29 and Bogia Road Monday afternoon asking for water. The resident called the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office to report a suspicious person.
When deputies arrived about 4 p.m., the man had already fled. Deputies were were able to determine the man’s identity and that he had an outstanding warrant from Tuscaloosa, according to Sgt. Jacob Holloway, a spokesperson for the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office. The manhunt was called off before 8 p.m.
Holloway said the man’s name, physical description and warrant information were not available for release Monday night.
A K-9 team from the Century Correctional Institution assisted in the search.

Perhaps the sheriff needed more money to hire someone to say who the man was.
And maybe another one to provide a picture.
Well I suppose the take away from this is always be suspicious and always be alert, at home, in the car, in a parking lot. Lock your doors and pay attention.
Sad to live in fear but just be vigilant, cautious and safe.
Perhaps the water givers took a photo. Keep your cell phones handy — camera on.
Eyes and ears.
North end Neighbor Hood Watch.
But agree I wish the ECSO would post mugs. (perhaps they were not absolutely sure) but posted this for the public to be cautious.
This is my front yard!!!! I have 10 Ares for him to hide in. NO discription of the man. To watch for. And I’m here alone alot of the time. What if I SHOOT THE WRONG PERSON??? BECAUSE IM GONNA SHOOT FIRST AND ASK LATER!!!
Agree with Jim & SW…..Obviously there is a LOT more to this incident, especially if the ECSO can determine the identity of this man and that he has an outstanding warrant from out of state just from him asking for a drink of water from a stranger???
Wait!! So the fugitive fled by the time the s/o got out there but they were able to identify him and determine he had a warrant? I consider myself an educated person and this whole situation sounds a bit off. There has got to be a whole lot more to this story missing besides just name and description.
I agree with SW. That was kinda pointless (ECSO), but we appreciate your sharing, William.
Oh great! A wanted man is wandering around the community and no one, in the public, knows who he is, what he looks like, or what he is wanted for.
