ECSO: Cantonment Man Charged After Pulling Gun

May 17, 2018

A Cantonment man was arrested after allegedly pulling a gun at a local VFW post.

Larry Wayne Goodwin, 65, was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Goodwin got into an argument with his wife at the VFW on Lillian Highway, according to an arrest report. While across the room from his wife and her friend, he pulled out what the friend “observed to be” a handgun before putting it back in his pocket. The friend said he then pointed at her with his hand, making gesture as if he was pulling a trigger to shoot her.

He was released from the Escambia County Jail on a $10,000 bond.

    I know the man. He did NOT pull a gun. He merely looked at his phone and put it back in his pocket. The friend of his wife reported it as a means to harass him.

    @Vapor –

    Check your facts. From the “Gun Laws in Florida” website:

    YES/NO
    In Restaurants That Serve Alcohol

    You are not permitted under Florida law to carry in a bar area that serves alcohol. The law states that “any portion of an establishment that dispenses alcohol…. which is primarily devoted to such purpose”.

    So it is widely interpreted in Florida to mean that you can carry in a restaurant that serves alcohol, as its primary purpose is to dispense food and not alcohol. However, if the restaurant has a bar area you cannot enter that area while carrying a firearm. And you certainly cannot enter a fully licensed bar. That is classed as a misdemeanor with a possible 60 days jail or $500 fine.

    Note
    If the restaurant has posted a no firearms sign and you enter then you could be charged with armed trespass which is a felony.

    @Vapor: I don’t think Just Sayin is wrong. I recall clearly what we were told in our CC class and that was that you could not carry in a bar. Now, if you go to a restaurant with a bar, stay out of the bar and you should be OK. The point is that people who drink and have firearms are apt to do stupid things – like brandish a gun at a spouse one is angry with.

    You can not legally carry a concealed weapon in a place that serves alcohol because drunk people do stupid things.
