Northview High School was dismissed early due to a bomb threat Thursday afternoon, and the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office has completed their search and cleared the campus.

Maj. Andrew Hobbs, spokesperson for the ECSO, said deputies have identified a person of interest in the incident, and they are actively continuing their investigation.

Northview High School Principal Gayle Weaver said in a phone call to parents that faculty, staff and students were dismissed early from the campus as a result of the threat, which was specifically timed for the school’s regular dismissal time.

“The threat was timed specific for 3:20,” Weaver said in the call. Students said they were dismissed about 3:13 p.m.

Weaver said said the threat came from outside the school.

She said that the threat has been cleared, and  the Seniors Honors Program for tonight will continue as planned.

I was at the school for an awards presentation and had no idea all this was going on. They handled everything so calmly and smoothly and the awards presentation went on without interruption. Way to go NHS for looking out for our children and keeping your cool while keeping our kids safe. I love this school and the faculty and staff.

Thanks to the school officials for quick action and taking the threat serious enough to head off a possible terrible situation.
