Update: Crash That Killed ‘Good Samaritan’ Claims Second Victim
May 1, 2018
Update 5/1/2018: Kyle Harrison, 21, passed away Monday from injuries he received in this accident.
A good Samaritan was struck and killed Wednesday night in Escambia County after stopping to check on injuries in a previous accident. The driver of a vehicle involved in the original crash was also hit but survived.
The Florida Highway Patrol said Kyle Harrison, age 21 of Pensacola, was northbound on Highway 90 north of Eight Mile Creek Road in a Chevrolet 1500 when he failed to see and rear-ended e a 2018 Toyota Camry driven by 36-year old Chanphana Tran of Pensacola stopped in the roadway. That pushed the Camry into a 2018 Hyundai Tuscon driven b 37-year old Holley Birch of Pensacola.
Harrison exited his vehicle to check on the drivers as 34-year old Dannah Marie McCormick of Pensacola walked over to check on everyone.
An oncoming driver, 80-year old Cecelia Mroz of Huachuca City, AZ, did not see Harrison and McCormick standing in the roadway and struck both. McCormick was pronounced deceased from her injuries; Harrison was critically injured. Mroz was not injured.
Three children in Tran’s vehicle, ranging in age from a few months to seven years-old, received minor injuries. Two children, ages 10 and 12, in Birch’s vehicle were not injured.
The Florida Highway Patrol said any charges are pending the outcome of their investigation.

That should tell you right THERE IF YOUR OLDER THEN 60 THEN YOU SHOULD HAVE TO DO A LISCENSE TEST EVERY 3 MONTHS? RIGHT
This was and is a tragedy for everyone, including the 80 year old lady. This accident was caused by a car stopped in the road, a young man didn’t see it and rear ended it. It was knocked into another car. Now we have three disabled vehicles blocking the road. An eighty year old lady doesn’t see it and also hits the stopped vehicles in the road. Same scenario as the first accident. But since the lady was 80 years old, let’s all blame her. She is a tragic victim also.
@Donna Bell. So sorry for all you have been through and the families involved in this terrible accident. It is reassuring to know that God’s orignal plan was for human to live perfect life eternally here on the earth but, because of human rebellion, it was cut short. Thanks to Jesus randsom sacrifice, He made that prospect possible again for us in the future. In the meantime, we try our best to make it through life’s trials , as Ecclesiaste 9:11 point out:”Time and unforeseen occurrence befall them all” and to do so we can turn to “the God of all comfort” (2Cor 1:3-6).
@Donna Bell …
Well Said!!!
Thank you for your testimony Donna Bell. Sorry that you & your family lost your husband, father & grandfather & for your sickness & the pain you went through. The tears were flowing.
@Donna Bell > Two Thumbs up! Thank you for that testimony!
Also praying for all families involved in this accident.
After a heart attack, two rounds with cancer – the first deemed terminal by doctors – then losing my husband of 40 years very unexpectedly, this is what I’ve learned; All things work together for the good of them that love the Lord and are called according to His purpose.
How could any good possibly come from this heartbreak? How could any good come from my grandson and I walking up to my husband’s truck on December 5, 2011 and finding him dead behind the wheel when he didn’t come home after deer hunting? Just a few months after I finished chemo? I was bald. I was expected to die. He was healthy,
When we had his funeral, I told the preachers not to lament him, I knew where he was. I told them to use his funeral to reach the lost. Three people were saved that day, when the preacher gave an altar call at a funeral.
Good comes from everything we have to face in this life. Always. My cancer gave me a source of income, disability allowed me to live without financial distress, for we had many bills to pay. Good came from my husband’s death because everyone knew if a vibrant healthy man like him could die that quickly, they’d better be making preparations for the hereafter. Good came from my incredible survival, because God intends me to use my testimony to reach others. Even my oncologist, a very educated and respected scientist, calls it Devine Intervention. I shouldn’t be alive, but I am. These two people shouldn’t have died, but they did.
No. The 80 year old shouldn’t have been driving at night. I’m 60 and I’ve already stopped driving at night because I can’t see where I’m going. No, these two young people shouldn’t have died, the way we see it.
It was all according to God’s plan though, and all we can do is pray for the loved ones they left behind. Pray that God will give them the peace that passes all understanding. He will carry them through this deep, dark valley.
Some good will come of it… and those that loved them? Make their deaths count. Let them demonstrate how quickly life can come to an end. And be assured of seeing them again…
This is so sad, praying for all involved and their families.
With some of the blinding bright headlights vehicles use these days it can be easy to not see someone.
I was turning left onto 9 Mile Rd west bound from the rear exit of the Pine Forest Rd Wal-Mart the other day and there were two vehicles headed eastbound. The first vehicle had old and dim headlights the vehicle behind it had blinding bright headlights. I came really close to pulling out into the path of the vehicle with the older headlights because of the newer very bright headlights in the vehicle behind it were overpowering.
I don’t know that oncoming traffic headlights caused the visual problem for this 80 year old driver, but it would not be a surprise if that were the case.
Wow.. Blessed Be to the ones fighting for their life and the families this happened to.. all this talk of older folks driving, yes I agree some shouldn’t be on the road.. but there are some that drive better than the younger folks.. many younger ones are too busy with phones, dashboards, and getting to their place in record time that they don’t pay attention to what is going on around them.. in fact, most of is nowadays dont.. such a shame for the lives taken.. maybe it will change one day
It is so tragic that a life was lost. But, i have to believe an 80 year old would be hard pressed to see well enough to be out at night. I don’t know her, so i may be totally wrong. But, this is not her fault as much as the system. My father lives in anither state. He has severe Macular Degeneration and voluntarily gave up driving long ago. However, when it was time to renew his license at 85 years old, all they had him do was sign. No eye test. If he was stubborn or alone, he would be driving. That needs to be fixed.
I’m in prayer for this lady and the families. It was a tragic accodent.
Whether 80 or 21, we all make mistakes. Instead of focusing on who’s fault it is focus on praying for the families. Because that 80 year must feel terrible, the 21 year old probably felt terrible which is why he got out of his car and made sure the people were okay which is (for your information) in a coma right now and may not live and the pastors family lost a precious loved one. So be thankful for everyday and every moment you have. Don’t waste your time worrying about whose fault it was. It happened and you can’t change the past. Let us pray for everyone that this tragic accident has affected
Our hearts and prayers go out to Pastor Tim and his entire family in coping with the tragic loss of his sister. May GOD’s mercy and grace be with you during this difficult time, and, may HE wrap his loving arms around your family and guide them to find comfort in knowing that she is with the Lord singing with the angels. Rest in peace Dannah Marie McCormick.

To Wondering
Very sad for this woman’s family. Praying for her family.
But to wondering who thinks everyone who is older should be tested, what about testing YOUNG PEOPLE? Seems as though you overlooked the fact that a 21 year old driver caused the accident before the older driver came along.
Very sad. Thoughts and prayers to all involved.
This is extremely sad. Bless their hearts. They try to do a little good in this rotten world and one loses her life while another is badly injured. My thoughts and prayers for the families.
This Good Samaritan was my pastor’s wife, and a Registered Nurse. She was a devoted wife and mother to two precious sons, ages 3 and 5. She gave her life doing what she was called and trained to do. Thank you all for your prayers for her family and our church family.
Man we are praying for you and will see you when you get a room! Love you man!
Just wondering when geriatric driver’s license re-testing is going to come into play? Can’t help but think if an EIGHTY year old had not been behind the wheel, this could have been avoided…
SO, SO SAD!
God Bless them all. Those witnesses will have a hard time with this, especially those small children.
Prayers for all.
