Remember The Busy Intersection Shootout? Second Suspect Arrested

April 20, 2018

The final suspect has been arrested in connection with a shootout and a busy intersection on January 22.

Dash cam video from a nearby vehicle shows a silver Lexus pull up to the intersection of W Street and Fairfield Drive about noon. A man, later identified as 27-year old Jonathan James Harris is seen leaning out the open driver’s window of a silver Lexus. He begins firing across a traffic lane at a gold Toyota driven by 31-year old Jeremy Olds.

The man identified as Olds jumps out of the Toyota and returns fire. He was arrested in January and charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Deputies arrested Harris (pictured) after a traffic stop Thursday on a car that fled from them earlier in the day. Harris was driving that vehicle, according to deputies, and had with him three clear plastic baggies with a white powdery substance inside that tested positive for cocaine, another plastic baggie containing Hydrocodone pills, a stolen gun, marijuana and more than $4,000 in cash.

Harris was arrested and charged with trafficking of cocaine, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, attempted first degree homicide, aggravated assault, discharging a firearm from a vehicle, fireing a weapon into a vehicle and criminal mischief with property damage. He is being held without bond in the Escambia County Jail.

Authorities have estimated that 10-12 rounds were fired, including rounds that struck a nearby vehicle with two children inside.

@ Rodney. I totally agree with that. Being in law enforcement stricter gun law affects the person who goes and get a gun by doing it the right way. Some may slip through the cracks such as some of the high profile news clippings of mass killings. But the real reason is that these irresponsible legal gun owners leave their gun inside their cars overnight and unlocked. This is about where at least 80% of these guns get on the streets. Y’all would be amazed on how many daily reports are done on burglaries we do with reported guns were stolen. It’s sad that the legal gun owner just added to the arsenal of these thieves who sell these guns or trade them to these other criminals. I see people bashing the sheriff about his billboards advertising. But the one that states LOCK YOUR DOORS is the one which everyone needs to pay attention to. This will cut back on guns on the streets. Better yet take your guns inside your house and take out your valet keys from your glove box so your car won’t end up stolen. Last but not least, please take your regular keys to your car inside unless your car is parked inside a locked garage. We as law enforcement are tired of taking report of stolen guns from unlocked cars. Just remember your gun that you leave inside your unlocked car will probably be the demise of someone later down the road. Enough said…

Things are really getting out of hand. This is an example of people that have no respect for human life. For all those screaming “gun control” please re-read the article. The individual was arrested for “possession of a firearm by a convicted felon”. Ok, that’s good. I ask you, what law written on paper would stop this? None. My concern is the lives of the people that could have been shot. Don’t tell me the man was defending himself. He got off two rounds in response to the others aggression knowing only that he’s firing back. The actions of both are unbelievable.

Take both of them to let’s say a deep clay pit. Put all those involved in it, give each of them back the firearm they used, plenty of ammo & let them kill each other. Should one or both survive, hang them until dead. Do it in front of the courthouse downtown and let them rot. Put up a sign that says “You do what they did and this is where you will be.” We need “Criminal Control” then gun control will not be an issue.

Thank you leo for apprehending this filth that places no value on innocent lives… Those bullets could have easily struck anyone around and near that intersection… That would of been horrific to say the least…

How many gun crimes have been committed within the past 2 weeks in which convicted felons were the suspects? Anyone with the IQ of a carrot should realize stricter gun laws would not lower these types of crimes.
