Gary Hobbs

April 11, 2018

Gary Hobbs, 59, of Cantonment, passed away on Tuesday April 3, 2018. Gary was born on April 2, 1959, in Brewton, Alabama. He grew up in Florida, attended J.M. Tate High School and became a life-long resident of the Cantonment area.

Gary was a true “car guy” who loved NASCAR, local drag races, classic car shows, memorabilia and building models. Gary was also interested in local history and had a love for fishing. Above all, he cherished time with friends and family.

Gary will be dearly missed by his daughter, Amy Hobbs, and his siblings: Kathy Peterson, Sharon Varde, Tricia Johnson (Jay), Danny Higdon, and Malcolm Higdon (Joyce). He is also survived by his adoring aunts, Lois Allen, Faye McCrory, and Christine Lacy; many nieces and nephews, extended family and close friends. He is preceded in death by his mother, Minnie Higdon.

At Gary’s request, no services will be held.

Gary was a good guy, I went through Ransom and Tate with him, partied and drag raced at the river back in the day. I remember when Mr Vickery installed that 440 Six Pack motor in Gary’s 71 Road Runner, fast it was.

Prayers and condolences for Gary’s loved ones.

Oh my, where to begin. My “GARY WAYNE OOCKENBACKEN HOBBS”, I have loved you for soooo long now! I have a lot of great memories of us and some of the messes we would get ourselves into. I think we clicked from day one and I was glad to call you my friend/FAMILY! I will surely never forget you and I’m so glad we shared the window of time that we had together. You have your wings now so you be sure to use them and fly through my heart once in a while and I will know its you Babe!!!! To the rest of the family, Sharon, Toot, Kathy, Coon, Bones and Amy I pray that ya’ll will have comfort at this time from the LOVING ARMS OF MY SAVIOR JESUS CHRIST! I think about ya’ll often and still consider myself your family…. Though I don’t get to see you much, if any at all I cherish the times that I shared with each of ya’ll especially my KIDD DOG! God Bless and know that you hold a place in my heart.
