Delton Boswell Passes Away Several Months After Receiving Very Special Gift

April 16, 2018

Delton Eugene Boswell, Jr. passed away Saturday. He was 54.

Boswell was an Escambia County employee over 30 years — many of those years at the Escambia County Road prison.

We introduced you to Delton and his story on Christmas Day 2016 after he received a very special gift.

While undergoing his second surgery in 16 months, the officers at the road prison’s Camp 5 came together to support their supervisor and friend. A few months prior, they decided to finish the restoration work he had started on his 1956 Ford Crown Victoria Sunliner.

Days after one of Boswell’s surgeries, two of the officers loaded up the car to have the exhaust re-done at George’s Muffler Shop. Later, 18 officers and friends gathered at a garage to give the car an overhaul. In 10 hours, the car had a new gas tank, new Edelbrock carburetor, new seats, radiator repair (special thanks to Danny Cain) and other fix-ups before the big reveal.

As Boswell turned into the driveway, the garage door was raised and the car pulled out while friends and family followed behind. Lots of smile and lots of tears were shed along with a prayer.

Visitation for Delton Eugene Boswell, Jr. will be 5-8 p.m. Thursday at Faith Chapel North. Funerals services will be held Friday morning at 11:00 at Faith Chapel North, with burial to follow at Eastern Gate Memorial Gardens.

Brother Boswell will be missed by those he leaves behind, but we are envious of the place we know he is now. We at Facilities had the distinct pleasure of knowing Delton for many years and our outlook is much greater due to the courage we watched Delton Boswell exhibit even during his difficult times. Thank you to the entire Boswell Family for sharing such a exuberant person. Bos will be MISSED…..

Sorry for the lost of a well like man! I met him back in mid 80’s when his dad was managing the LakeStone Campsite. I watched and saw his rising employment thru the County and he did very well! Since those days back at LakeStone,I got to know him more when he was the maintenance shop supervisor at the Escambia County Road Prison and I was with the Escambia County Facilities ( Plumber ) before I retired back in 2016. Will miss you!

My prayers are with the Boswell family. We met them over 30 years ago and Delton “Gene” to me always had a smile and kind words for those he would see. We have truly lost a wonderful and caring man. Tammy, I pray for you the strength to carry on with the new chapter life this life has now presented you.

Just so everyone will know, Sergeant Boswell started his career with the County as a Equipment Operator in 1985. He went through the Corrections Academy and became a Corrections Officer for the Escambia County Road Prison (Camp5) in 1992. He worked his way from Officer, to Road Corrections Officer, to Corporal, to Sergeant, then to the position he held when he left us, Administrative/RCO Sergeant. There is now a Hole in this department that will never be filled. We Love you Boz. Tammy we will forever remember the good times & we will always be here for you. Rest In Peace Our Brother, until we meet again!!!

Prayers to family and friends in their loss because it sure seems he had no shortage of friends. Life is a special gift and sadly too many leave too early, but having those kind of friends…….priceless!

Tammy [all other family members], I’m sorry to hear of Deltons passing. I’m positive he left you all with tons of laughs, memories and silly things he’s done over the years. The best one that comes to mind is when he sit outside the Winn-Dixie where you were working eating fried chicken right on the property line because he wasn’t allowed back on the property after having a small problem with management there. Please tell the rest of the family I said we’re sorry but together you all will make it through this rough time in all of your lives. Take care, Mike Amerson
