Town Of Century Buying AED For The Flomaton Fire Department

April 17, 2018

The Century Town Council voted Monday night to pay for an automated external defibrillator (AED) for the Flomaton Fire Department.

The AED will cost $1,103, according to Century Mayor Henry Hawkins, who made the request on behalf of the fire department.

“We are trying to get several more units,” Flomaton Fire Chief Steve Stanton said in a phone interview following the meeting. “They save lives.”

Just last week, a Flomaton High School student fell to the gym floor in cardiac arrest during a basketball game.  An AED was used in his resuscitation, and he was back home with his family by Saturday night. [Read more...]

The Flomaton Fire Department provides a mutual aid response in Century.

AED’s are already part of the emergency response in Century — they are carried by deputies from the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office, Escambia County EMS ambulances and trucks from Escambia Fire Rescue.  The town also purchased AED units for the town hall, the community center on Highway 4 and the town maintenance shop.

Stanton say anyone that wishes to contribute toward the purchase of AED’s should call Flomaton Town Hall at (251) 296-2431.

    TCL

I can promise you they don’t beat Century to almost every call they get, especially since it’s rare they run a call here. I would say 2 calls out of 20 or 25 a month IF that and that’s normally a structure fire. In fact, cardiac arrest calls they aren’t even dispatched to unless Centurys FD request help. Though I don’t have a problem with them buying them for flomaton, don’t bash century’s volunteers to try and justify it.

TOWN OF CENTURY COUNCIL DO NOT DO THIS.

First and foremost I love the idea of an AED. Century is a paid and Volunteer department, just like Flomaton. When the paid guys from Century leave and it’s volunteers Flomaton beats them to every call they have almost. Buying this AED isn’t such a bad thing strictly for the fact that Flomaton is Mutual aid to Century. If we have to use it on your family memeber one day would you complain about who bought it? Think about others life instead of your own.

    Yeah Sam
And it says each emergency vehicle in Century has one on it.

Not a bad thing but Flomaton should buy for Alabama.

Will Alabama come pulls weeds at the Welcome to Florida sign please? It’s looking bad.

The article says Flomaton Fire dept goes to calls in century as does century to flomaton. The device doesn’t care what town it’s in.

Why is Century buying an AED for Flomaton? As the Flomatin fire chief stated, they want to buy several more AED’s. Those will be placed in various locations. That way, when you have a massive heart attack first responders will be close enough to a unit to use it on you. At that point I doubt seriously you’ll care who paid for it.

AED’s save lives, but they’ve got to be available when needed. One unit living at the Flomaton Fire Department can’t help people fifteen miles away.

Thank you Mr Hawkins, for thinking about people’s lives!

I have kids working at the Flomaton fire Dept to help people, saves lives , save their homes! This Equipment is a life saver, the one that was used at Flomaton on Devrick, is a proven fact that it is needed ! It never fells that someone in this town will complain about a good deed! God bless you and thanks to town of Century (BGA)

Why doesn’t Flomaton buy their own? This sounds like using the Brownfield grant for gas stations in Flomaton.

    Smells funny.
