Roadway Safety Improvements Made Just Days After Fatal Molino Wreck

March 1, 2018

Just days after a fatal traffic collision in Molino, safety improvements have been made  at the intersection.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, 56-year old Franklin Webb was traveling east Sunday afternoon on Barrineau Road when he failed to properly yield his Toyota Tundra at a stop sign at the intersection of Highway 29. His vehicle was hit by a southbound pickup truck. Webb was pronounced deceased at the scene. [Read more...]

On Tuesday, someone repainted rumble strips and other pavement markings on Barrineau Park road approaching Highway 29 from both the east and west. But exactly what agency was responsible for the rumble strips remained unclear.

The Florida Department of Transportation said the painting was not done by FDOT or any of their subcontractors. And Escambia County said they didn’t do the work either.

Anyone that knows exactly who painted the rumble strips is asked to email news@northescambia.com.

Area residents and an Escambia County official said the rumble strips were last painted several years ago, and area residents said they had worn down were no longer effective.

OK..good. I hope they do them everywhere.
Funny.I thought we had some undercover residents taking matters into their own hands.

I agree with Molino Resident the approaching flashing warning sign with lights has apparently slowed down accidents from Byrneville Road @ Hwy 29 along with the rumble strips.

    >>Acme barricades has been contracted by the state to paint the rumble strips. The men are out here working again and i asked them

Believe or not, the state is still in denial that it’s them contracting for work on a county road. I think the left hand does not even know that there is a right hand. :)

You wouldn’t BELIEVE the run around we have had to attempt to get our rumble strips nears us re done and raised.

I am serious..I am not going to even go into it.

    And they are NOT redone.

Government FAIL on so many levels.

    good job!!

    Thinking hwy 196 ( barrineau park rd ) is a county road….CR 196. If that’s
the case then wouldn’t it be the County’s responsibility ? Whoever/whatever
is in charge might need re-training in traffic safety & control. The speed limit
is too high (only west of 29 ? ) Did anyone contact the residents about the speed
limits ? Traffic being GPS’d off Interstate 10 in Alabama with big numbers of 18
wheelers and for the last 5 months the DETOUR. Also log trucks by the dozens
coming from Alabama . All this adds-up to big potential problems & accidents
and it appears whoever they are just ain’t paying attention.

@Joann — You are correct. Voting against our best interests must stop.

I wouldn’t be surprised if it we’re a resident. Out here, if our commissioner and government won’t do it, at least SOMEONE does. Thanks many times over to them. 2018-1982=36 years people since warning strips were installed, after a death
WTH? 36 years. I know of at least 3 deaths before all the traffic was rerouted. We better start electing people to look out FOR US.

The strips are great but I sure wish they would put the flashing red sign (stop sign ahead) on the shoulder of the road on both sides of Highway 196 before you get to Highway 29. This will be so inexpensive and save lives. Plus it will not impede traffic flow on Highway 29 because it is not a traffic light in the middle of the intersection.

THANK YOU to whom ever did this. Great job, carry on the good work.

Tuesday morning February 27, 2018 approximately 8:50 a.m. there were approximately 5 FHP cars all had lights on except the one sitting on the west side of the road and 1-2 ECSO cars sitting at that intersection and what looked like a survey truck of some kind white in color I believe. There were several in the center of intersection measuring etc. I assumed they were still doing some of the investigating. Now this article appears. I told the lady with me that my uncle and cousin had went to the state about placing the road bumpers at that intersection in 1982 when my aunt was killed when a lady driving ran the stop sign and broad sided my uncle’s car and my aunt was killed.
