Muscogee Road In Cantonment Reopened To Traffic

March 24, 2018

Muscogee Road in Cantonment has reopened to traffic.

Muscogee Road was closed from Beulah Road to just east of the state ine in late September for the installation of a water main, reconstruction of a portion of the roadway, and construction of 5-foot shoulders. Traffic was detoured via Highway 29 and Barrineau Park Road to Highway 112 in Alabama.

There are still three phases to come in the overall project:

Perdido River to Beulah

  • 90% Design under review
  • Easements needed from Water Management District; request pending design completion
  • Design Completion pending construction funding

Carlisle to 97

  • 60% Design
  • Letters were mailed to residents requesting participation in property donations for right-of-way
  • Staff is following up with residents for participation

97 to Nowak

  • 60% Design
  • Letters were mailed to residents requesting participation in property donations for right-of-way
  • Staff is following up with residents for participation

Someone please explain to me why Muscogee was closed for that long and was not even paved all the way to Jacks Branch Road? The reason I ask this question is I traveled from Beulah to Jacks Branch today and the amount of patches in the road and pot holes are crazy.

It is so about time. Hope they don’t shut it down for the next several phases. I have been using River Annex Rd and Kingsfield, if it’s been raining. 6 months is a long time to close a road.

Oddball: You sure may be on to something…..how bout jus closing
the bridge over the perdido River? Go back to the old
Days of quiet & only neighbors driving on hwy 196 ! Joggers
& hikers & cyclist enjoying the country…..I wouldn’t try any
of that right now though. I noticed your side ( east ) of 29
on 196 has speed limit of 45 . Getting any log trucks & semi’s
    On your side ?

Maybe they can close Barrineau on the west side of 29 at 29 for a few months so yall can see what its like.

It’s cause they’ve got used to the short-cut, the 55 mph ( more
like 65 mph) unenforced speed limit. Plus it’s downhill all the way to Alabama

    Good news

Finally……..now if the speed limit on Barrineau park rd. (hwy 196) was
45 mph we could get a little sleep

    And thankful we are.
There will be a yard sale at 1715 Muscogee Rd Saturday and Sunday (March 24 and 25) from 8 am to 5 pm

Then why are log trucks still screaming up and down Barrineau Park and Jack’s Branch Roads?

These heavy, high speed trucks pose a clear and present danger to the taxpayers who dwell along the roadways.
