A 200 acres prescribed burn got out of hand Friday afternoon on Jacks Branch Road in the area of Barrineau Park Road.

The call came in just after 2 p.m. About 15 units responded from the Molino, Cantonment, McDavid, Ensley, and Bellview stations of Escambia Fire Rescue. The Florida Division of Forestry also worked to contain the fire.

Prescribed burns are over prescribed just like opiates with just as deadly results. As a person with four marble sized tumors in my lungs, I cannot breath when these happen. I have argued for years against the same. Today with modern mulching attachments a sixty foot wide corridor can be created in woooded areas and simple grass planted in the gaps. These corridors can be cut about twice a year with a tractor, and in ten years it will be back into good pasture.

It is just as easy for the forest service to invest in a couple bobcats and mulching attachments which could naturally return the material to the soil. I have NEVER seen a controlled burn which protected anything but a full employment act for the forest service. Two bobcat mulchers can clear five acres a day. However, manpower will be reduced.
