Bratt Road Bridge To Remain Closed For Months Before Work Begins

February 7, 2018

As of Tuesday, the  Bratt Road Bridge over Canoe Creek has been closed for two months, and a county official said it may be the end of the year before work begins on a replacement bridge.

A county spokesperson said the Florida Department of Transportation is set to let a contract to replace the bridge in September.  Once construction begins, it will take up to about 90 days to install a temporary bridge and open it to traffic, subject to weather delays, according to Joy Tsubooka, Escambia County public information officer.

Once the temporary bridge is opened, construction will begin on a new permanent concrete bridge.

The current wooden-support bridge was constructed in 1956 and was closed by FDOT December 6 after it failed an inspection.

The bridge averaged 425 vehicles per day prior to closure.

You can think the legislature for the sorry state of the infrastructure. They’d rather cut taxes to the bone before paying for roads, schools and emergency services.

What you see on top of the pilings is not duct tape. It’s strips of metal to make a cap of sorts.

@Concerned, is there a wooden bridge remaining along Cervantes Street?

The bridge located between Palafox and I-110 was replaced in 2005 and the bridge of Bayou Texar between 17th ave and Scenic Hwy was replaced in 2000.

The following link provides data as to the location of bridges within Pensacola, when built and their current rating. To see the info, or a street view of each bridge, just click on the locator pin showing on the map.

How did this bridge pass an inspection 5 years ago, 10 years ago? This bridge should have been closed years ago. No money to fix it? Where do our tax dollars go? Perhaps expensive jet travel by the Governor? The state can pay millions of dollars a year to football coaches but can’t fix bridges. Just shows that politics is all about the politician and not the people.

    >>People are still continuously using this bridge regardless.

Using it for what? One end is completely sealed off with concrete barricades. I added another photo to the very bottom of the story.

People are still continuously using this bridge regardless.

How come all bridges in the North Escambia seem to not be passing inspection, but the state does not seem to look into the wooden bridge on Cervantes that has been covered for many years? Thankfully I can go many different ways to Pensacola, but others have to sacrifice a lot of time and gas just to get to and fro.

Only reason this bridge is here is camp 5 honestly leave bridge closed. We don’t need all those cars flying up and down the road or all those huge dump trucks doing the same thing.
