Smoke Leads To Evacuation Of The Homestead Lounge
January 7, 2018
An early morning fire led the evacuation of the Homestead Lounge and Package Store in the 3600 block of Highway 29 north of Cantonment.
An extinguished fire in a restroom was reported about 12:45 a.m. Sunday. The fire fighters arriving on scene reported a light smokey haze in the building, but reported the fire was out.
The exact cause of the smoke was not immediately available.
There were no injuries and no major damage reported.
The Molino, Cantonment, Ensley, Ferry Pass and Bellview stations of Escambia Fire Rescue, and the Pace Fire Department were dispatched to the fire.

Reminds me of the Coasters song “Charlie Brown”
>>>Why after the first first responder arrive on scene and determined 5 more departments were not needed 10-22 all other responders rather than waste all these resources.
Not all of the dispatched units ever arrived on scene…many where canceled after it was determined the fire was out and did not extend into a wall, attic/roof, etc.
(The story says “dispatched” to the fire, not responded all the way to the scene.)
Why after the first first responder arrive on scene and determined 5 more departments were not needed 10-22 all other responders rather than waste all these resources. If needed yes send them. Surely it took only a very short time to assess the situation and determine they didn’t have a major situation on hand
Cool little bar/package store.
Old joke among co-workers was we need to stop by and file our Homestead exemption.
Louie”s beer joint on Molino road used to be another good watering hole with a juke box filled with classic country music! Good times years ago.
