New Krispy Kreme Planned For Nine Mile Road

January 26, 2018

A new Krispy Kreme Doughnuts is in the planning stages for East Nine Mile Road, possibly with a new Burger King next door.

Krispy Kreme presented plants for the new store at 1730 East Nine Mile Road — just east of Dodge’s Fried Chicken (pictured above). Company representatives went before the Escambia County Development Review Committee this week with their plants.

The developers are purchasing four parcels located on East Nine Mile Road between Plainfield Avenue and Barranger Drive, two of which would house a Krispy Kreme and two of which would house a Burger King.

Currents plans show the Krispy Kreme at 3,500 square feet with 40 seats.

In order for the development to move forward, they would have to apply for a rezoning to rezone the property from commercial to heavy commercial and light industrial. This rezoning is required to accommodate a further request for a conditional Use, based on the drive-thru nature of the proposed business, according to Escambia County spokesperson Kaycee Lagarde.

“It is up to the developers to take the next step and apply for the rezoning, then they would go through the conditional use process,” she said in an email. “Both of those processes combined (rezoning and conditional use) can take up to several months, but again, it is up to the developers to decide whether to proceed/how soon they decide to apply.”

I guess nobody knows the answer to my question.

  4. Cantonment on January 30th, 2018 9:17 am

We live in Cantonment, I agree, we NEED something else out our way. We have a few fast food joints and Winn Dixie, oh and a nasty “other” grocery store that smells. We need a good sit down family restaurant. Roadhouse, Outback, anything. And also a neighborhood Wal-Mart. Property is everywhere and from Burger King at Winn Dixie shopping center there is really NOTHIING until Century and so MANY of Centurians etc have to come to Nine Mile road for a meal, Applebee’s and Chili’s. and that’s not nearly like a Steak house, even a fish house. They closed down Cock of the Walk…..
Who gets a voice in all this?????
    Just curious.

Yay (not) more crappy junk food on 9 Mile Road……

Just curious, when a business opens up like this who pays for the traffic control devices such as curbing and turn lane or traffic lights and is there a requirement or maybe a measurement used to figure out the amount of traffic that will be going in and out. And I’m too looking forward to KK coming north I think a little closer to Hwy 29 might be better those.

<<@Wiiliam – that building in the picture was a dentist’s office and that was the last thing that it has been. The Vape Shop is one more building to the east

Thanks. I thought it was the Vape shop. I'm usually to busy watching traffic and/or checking out the Sonic specials on the sign going through there.

@Wiiliam – that building in the picture was a dentist’s office and that was the last thing that it has been. The Vape Shop is one more building to the east in what used to be someone’s residence. It has also been a used textbook store in the not too recent past.

Good Krispy Kreme. I could actually see it going up on 9( mile Rd. What about a Olive Garden, or a Good steakhouse would be nice. The Barbque place on Hwy 29 is very good old Ray Cranford’s Taste, So delicious. Try it out. Very Good

I have always loved Krispy Kreme especially since I grew up on the east side of Pensacola. Sort of a staple item for us like Jerry’s Drive Inn. I have tried, and tried, to enjoy Dunkin’ Donuts but they are not fresh. Maybe if you go first thing in the morning??? I don’t know. I’ll take KK any day since they are made fresh all day long, even if I do have to continue driving across town. Maybe it will happen and I can shorten my drive.

They’re good except for the processed flour, sugar, and oil.

  16. TUMom on January 26th, 2018 11:11 am

Yahhhhhhhhhhh. Can’t wait for them to open. I love, love their doughnuts!!!!

  17. BT on January 26th, 2018 10:30 am

I agree with DP…love Maynard’s Donuts. Y’all should try them while you’re waiting all those months for Krispy Kreme to open up.

Maple with bacon may not sound good on a donut, but it is wonderful!

  18. JW on January 26th, 2018 10:12 am

I hope this doesn’t affect Maynard’s either! They are great!

Good, no one likes the 5 Dunkin Doughnuts stores that just opened anyway

  23. anne 1of2 on January 26th, 2018 8:40 am

Zoning, the enemy of small business. Just another way to take money and slow down progress.

  24. tg on January 26th, 2018 8:38 am

OMG. A Diary Queen on 9 Mile and now Krispy Kreme! This is Awesome. So much for my waistline. LOL

  26. just listening on January 26th, 2018 8:02 am

The Krispy Kreme down town Pensacola has so been out of the way for a long time. as “Anonymous” said ” PLEASE LET THIS HAPPEN”. As if I really need them but one or two or three now and again won’t hurt. O’ just can’t wait to see the HOT NOW sign…….

  27. DP on January 26th, 2018 7:37 am

This won’t be good for Maynard’s Donuts, whose fritters we LOVE. But the part that confuses me is Burger King. Really? I don’t know how they stay in business. Their food is awful! I’d rather have something….ANYTHING else but a BK. They closed one BK on Nine Mile Road due to not enough business….why do they think this one will be any different? I wish we could get more sit-down, nice restaurants out here….we don’t need more fast food. Just my opinion.

  28. Anonymous on January 26th, 2018 7:06 am

OMG. PLEASE LET THIS HAPPEN. the Krispy Kreme idc about Burger King lol
