Muscogee Road Work About 60 Percent Complete

January 22, 2018

Work is about 60 percent complete on the first phase of widening and drainage improvements for Muscogee Road from Highway 297A to the Perdido River.

Muscogee Road was closed from Beulah Road to Carlisle Road in late September for the installation of a water main, reconstruction of a portion of the roadway, and construction of 5-foot shoulders. Traffic has been detoured via Highway 29 and Barrineau Park Road to Highway 112 in Alabama.

The current section scheduled to be completed and the road reopened, barring any weather delays, by the end of February.

There are still three phases to come in the overall project:

  • Perdido River to Beulah
    • 90% Design under review
    • Easements needed from Water Management District; request pending design completion
    • Design completion pending construction funding
  • Carlisle to 97
    • 60% Design
    • Letters were mailed to residents requesting participation in property donations for right-of-way
      • Escambia County staff is following up with residents for participation
  • 97 to Nowak
    • 60% Design
    • Letters were mailed to residents requesting participation in property donations for right of way
      • Escambia County staff is following up with residents for participation

Since this is a freight corridor, the roadway will be designed and constructed to accommodate the heavy traffic load.

These contractors have more jobs than they have equipment to work them. That is why you see jobs setting idle. The companies equipment is on another job. They just move the equipment back and forth from one job to another to assure that the equipment stays busy. This insures that they get their monies worth out of the equipment. FDOT does not manage these contractors at all. We need penalities for late completion or these road jobs will never get done.

Prior to commencement this job site posted a notice of completion of 120 days. This contractor tied the job up blocked off both ends of project and many days there were no workers on the site. If the contractor truly cared about the community and the incovience it caused completing this project on time wouldnt have been a problem. This Company is large enough and has the resources to have knocked this little one mile project out in a month. Until the County starts holding these contractors in compliance or giving an incentive for completing a jobs ahead of schedule or on time why would they care. Complete the project on time or pay it’s that simple!

You can pretty much bet that because Naval Federal didn’t get the easement to the weigh station for an exit lane for their employees, that any and all construction that is anywhere near being related to the Beulah Beltway will be fast-tracked now for sure. So hang-on Cantonmentans – we’ll be taking detours way out of our way for a few years to come while they annihilate Bengal’s pasture and all the other pristine forests and rid the land of homeowners whose houses are in the way of the Beltway. As I’ve said before – they should have named it PAFCU Parkway.

Thought the original section that you have posted above with Photos was only scheduled for 120 days which meant it would be completed by the end of January . In fact the contractor said it may open sooner. Hope it’s not the same contractor that worked on the bridge on CR 196. They missed that deadline by almost a year

Property DONATIONS? Seriously? Owners should not be even asked to give away their property. The county should pay.
