FHP: Man Killed When He Crashed Stolen Motorcycle

January 25, 2018

An Escambia County man was killed Wednesday afternoon when he crashed a stolen motorcycle.

Markiese Thornhill, 25, was traveling east about 2:25 p.m. on East Oakfield Road on a stolen 2016 Kawasaki motorcycle when he crossed a set of railroad tracks and failed to properly negotiate a curve, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The motorcycle struck a tree stump, ejecting Thornhill against a tree, according to troopers. He was not wearing a helmet.

The Florida Highway Patrol is continuing their investigation.

..Eleven prior arrests..looks like he should have turned his life around a long time ago..where were his parents or anyone else who should have set him straight ?

@Pat: Lesson number one in trying to turn your life around: DON’T STEAL. Ask for a ride or buy a bus ticket. If this is indeed true, is tragic that he died as a result of “borrowing” the motorcycle.

On another note – no helmet while riding is just plain foolish in my book. Law or not, I’d have one on.

I agree he should not have stolen that motorcycle. FOR ANY REASON!! With that being said, I think it’s a shame for y’all to post comments saying its karma, or that he got what was coming to him. This is still someone’s son. If you can’t see your way to seeing him as someone who lost his life, see the pain, that his mother must be in.

    Thats great!
Steal and instant karma takes over.
Sucks for the bike owner though. Bet he wont be compensated for the loss…

He stole that bike because he was trying to register for college and turn his life around.

Presumably, he is the one who stole the motorcycle. Such a shame to steal and live so recklessly. Guess they took the phrase “Thou shall not steal” out of his school.

Check out Markiese Thornhill’s Escambia County Jail View record. He has been arrested ELEVEN (11) TIMES. Just maybe he should have learned his lesson and turn away from crime. Some people never ever learn until they learn the hard way.
