Northview NJROTC Places At Milton Drill Meet
October 31, 2017
The Northview High School NJROTC competed against seven schools and place fourth overall during a Navy JROTC drill meet this past weekend at Milton High School. Northview’s NJROTC placed second in Personnel Inspection and third in Armed Exhibition Drill. In individual awards, Oscar Rodriguez placed fifth in Individual Drill competition from among over 200 cadets.
Lillian Merle Smith Davis

Mrs. Lillian Merle Smith Davis of Davisville, FL passed away Sunday October 29, 2017. She was born on December 20, 1925, in Atmore, AL, to the late Ernie and Lucy (McElhaney) Smith. She was married to William (Willie) Davis.
She is survived by one son, William (Sonny) and wife, Bonnie; two daughters, Eunice (Billy) Edgar and LuCindy Harrison; grandchildren, Billy (Cindy) Davis, Randell (Jackie) Davis, Denny (Tina) Davis, and Tony (Jenny) Davis, Sonja (David) Lambert, James (Sally) Edgar, Michael (Amanda) Edgar, and Ollie Edgar, Cary Jordan and Chris Edwards.
Services will be Thursday, November 2, 2017, at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel.
Interment will follow in Pine Barren Cemetery.
Family will receive friends, Thursday, November 2, 2017, at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home from 10 a.m. until service time at 11 a.m.
Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements.
Dakota Adam Amerson

Dakota Adam Amerson, age 12, was born in Pensacola, FL, on June 15, 2005. He was raised in Cantonment, FL and passed away at home Tuesday, October 24, 2017.
During the course of his short life, Dakota touched the hearts and lives of many. His testimony is larger than this page allows. The medical challenges Dakota faced early in life shaped the way his family functioned and forever changed our perspective. Despite the short prognosis the doctors gave of three months, Dakota held on and his strength endured for 12 and a half years. We are honored to have had the privilege of caring for and sharing life with this precious child of God. We love you Dakota!
Dakota is survived by his parents, Stephen and Laura Amerson; brothers, Logan, Gabriel and Isiah; grandparents, John and Cheryl Ryan, Lori Amerson and Curtis and Mary Amerson; great-grandparents, Pat Ryan, Curtis and Betty Amerson and Mary Griffin; aunts and uncles, Charles and Brittany Ryan, Jason and Heather Amerson and Cindy Romine; cousins, Angelina, Sara, Lilyth, Harley, Jaxon, Riley and Bellamy and so many more wonderful people.
Funeral services were held Monday, October 30, 2017, at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North with Bro. Bill Flanagan serving as officiant.
Interment was at Cottage Hill Methodist Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers were Stephen Amerson, Isiah Davis, Logan Amerson, Jason Amerson, John Ryan and Charles Ryan.
Gabriel Amerson and Curtis Amerson were honorary pallbearers.
Faith Chapel Funeral Home North is entrusted with arrangements.
Patricia Delmar Sasser

Patricia Delmar “Pat” Sasser, 76, of Cairo, GA, passed away at Grady General Hospital in Cairo, GA, on Friday, October 27, 2017. No services are planned at this time.
Ms. Sasser was born on May 30, 1941, in Colquitt, GA, to the late Steve Delmar, Sr. and Evelyn Irene Calhoun Delmar. She was a retired teacher.
Survivors include her grandchildren, Brett A. Sasser (April) of Thomasville, GA, Alyssa Beamon (Tim) of Pensacola, FL, Rachel Sasser of Pensacola, FL, Phoenix Sasser of Milton, FL, Jimmy Sasser of Tallahassee, FL, Hunter Hudson of Hahira, GA; great-grandchild, Nola Beamon, Donovan Sasser, Kyran Sasser, all of Pensacola, FL; brothers, LaVon Delmar (Mary) of Pace, FL, Steve Delmar, Jr. of Pensacola, FL; sister, E. J. Schweim (Karl) of Marietta, GA; her son-in-law, Clyde Hudson of Cairo, GA; and her favorite canine friend, Bufford.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her children, Deborah A. Hayes, Mitzi Lynn Hudson, James H. Sasser, Jr.; and a special friend, Norman Jackson.
Carol Wiley Martin

Mr. Carol Wiley Martin, 78, passed away Wednesday, October 25, 2017, in Atmore, Alabama.
Mr. Martin was a native of Bratt, FL and resided in Atmore, AL. He is preceded in death by his parents, Ruben and Nettie Martin; brothers, Robert, Shirley, Bernard Ray and Doug; and sisters, Margaret Martin and Lillie Goldman.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Joy Kay L. Martin of Atmore, AL; one son, Benjamin (Teresa) Martin of Perdido, AL; two daughters, Deanna Martin of Sacramento, CA and Jolanda Martin (Tony) Baggett of Tuscaloosa, AL; one sister, Shelby Jean Hatcher of Atmore, AL; and two grandsons, Blake and Drew.
Graveside services were held Saturday, October 28, 2017, at Serenity Gardens Cemetery with Rev. Marty Sellers officiating.
Pallbearers were Tony Baggett, Drew Baggett, Blake Baggett, Adam Martin, John Ashcraft and Gary Bailey.
Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Homes is in charge of all arrangements.
Two Injured In Predawn Molino Wreck
October 30, 2017
Two people were injured in a predawn two vehicle crash Monday in Molino.
The two pickup crash was reported just before 5;30 a.m. at the intersection of Molino Road and Highway 95A. Both drivers were transported by Escambia County EMS to West Florida Hospital.
The accident is under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol.
The Molino, Cantonment and McDavid stations of Escambia Fire Rescue also responded to the accident.

Sheriff’s Office Mounted Posse Trains To Protect And Serve (With Gallery)

There was plenty of confetti, screaming people, sirens, black holes, flames and live gunfire — all part of a training session for the horses and riders of the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office Mounted Posse.
The posse recently trained off North Pine Barren Road near Bratt. The horses and riders ran an obstacle course of sorts, learning to push through barriers including a “fence” of pool noodles. In a test of trust between equine and rider, the horses crossed a low area area covered in black — which the horses perceive as a deep, dark hole and a danger.

The horses also stood with confetti guns fired toward them, learned to maintain order along a parade route of screaming people, and maneuver around the flames of Tiki torches and roadway flares. The horses were paraded around an Sheriff’s Office vehicle with flashing lights and a blaring siren, and they learned to hold their composure while approaching live gunfire.
“It’s all about exposing the horses to what they might encounter in the real world,” said Deputy Howard Enderson, posse leader. “This was only the second training for some, and they did really well. The horses love it; it s a game to them.”
The posse’s primary function is to assist the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office provide safety for the public. The posse can enhance patrol capabilities with crowd control, protection, patrolling and even suspect take down. The group also trains in search and rescue.
The posse also serves as a public face for the Sheriff’s Office, riding in numerous parades and appearing at public events.
The civilian volunteer unit current has 18 members — which includes 16 riders and two crew members. Only two members are paid deputies.
“We have a really good group of volunteers; one even turned down a paid job in order to volunteer,” Enderson said. “It’s also a chance for them to show off their horses.”
“Posse members volunteer their time and their horses for a variety of reasons, but mostly it’s a desire to serve,” he said. “I do it for the kids. They are the future of our country.”

Four Northview Graduates Receive National FFA Degrees

Four Northview High Schools graduates received the coveted American FFA Degree Saturday at the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, IN.
They were Kaitlyn Kleinatland, Bethany Reynolds, Haylee Weaver and Courtney Weekley. Miranda Vidak, a West Florida High School graduate also earned her American FFA Degree but did not attend the convention. The degree is presented after the FFA member graduates from high school.
The American FFA Degree is the highest honor bestowed upon any regular member of the National FFA Organization. The degree is presented to FFA members who have demonstrated the highest level of commitment to FFA and made significant accomplishments in their supervised agricultural experiences.
The American FFA Degree is awarded at the National FFA Convention & Expo each year to less than one percent of FFA members. Requirements to earn the honor are lengthy. In addition to their degree certificate, each recipient receives a gold American FFA Degree key.
The degrees were presented live on national television on RFD-TV.
